A deserving family in needJanuary 20, 2011Dear W.C.,
I know a family that is having a very hard time. I know they are late on their rent. They have two young children. The father lost his job last summer. The mother was hit by a hit-and-run driver and was left handicapped. They do not receive enough assistance from disability and unemployment. Due to all the medical bills and threats from the bill collectors they have been left broke. I have known this family for many years and know they are good people.
They have always lived frugally and have a devout belief in God. They do not have gas for their car. I have offered to drive them on several occasions but they have declined. I think they are too embarrassed to accept any help. They have even declined my requests to visit due to their embarrassment of not being able to afford heat. I do not know how they are feeding everyone and keeping a roof over their heads. Please help this deserving family.

The Time is Now to HelpOne last hope for helpSeptember 01, 2011Dear W.C.,You are my last resort. I am a single mother with four children. I work full-time but at a low paying job. Because I work I am not eligible for assistance. How do they expect me to house, feed, clothe, and pay for utilities and medical expenses for four children at the hourly rate I receive. My ex- husband is in jail. I do not receive any child support from him. At one time my ex-husband was a good and kind man. When he began to drink he turned into another person. By the time he was headed to jail we were already in the process of getting a divorce. I did not want my children growing up in that kind of environment. It feels like my children and I are being punished for his crimes. Can you please help my children and me?
The Time is Now to HelpA grandmother helpedAugust 25, 2011Dear W.C.,I am writing to ask for help for my grandma. I went to visit her last week. She has been having some health problems and she complains about the cost of her health care. She did not have hardly any food in her house and she kept the lights and air-conditioning off for the whole visit. She said she could not afford to turn them on. It was very hot outside and much too warm for her in her house. I wish I could help her myself but I am a college student without a job. My mom passed away several years ago from breast cancer so I am the only one left to look after my Grandma. Please help her.
The Time is Now to HelpGoing through a difficult timeAugust 18, 2011Dear W.C.,I am writing to ask for help for my family. My husband, two daughters, and I are having a real hard time. I had to give up my job after I became disabled due to a terrible car accident two years ago. I was hit by an uninsured drunk driver. I have had surgery twice already and still am unable to move without great pain. My husband lost his job when the company he worked for closed due to the recession. He has been looking for a new job, but employment is hard to find. I know we were wrong when we spent all we had on my medical bills, but the collection agency kept threatening me. Now we have fallen behind in our rent and need help with food.

The Time is Now to Help$40,000 matching grant metAugust 04, 2011Thank you to everyone that wrote letters, emailed, encouraged, liked on Facebook, and donated to The Time Is Now to Help. Your response to the CNN Heroes story has been overwhelming. I never expected such an outpouring of compassion and love for what we do. Together we ease the pains of poverty for our fellow creations. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I wanted to share one of the emails I received this past week. Dan Gray from Canada was inspired to write the following poem after watching our story on CNN:Your Helping Hands
The Time is Now to HelpI am not a heroJuly 28, 2011Several weeks ago we were contacted by CNN. They told us we had been nominated to be a CNN Hero. After several telephone interviews and a thorough investigation by CNN they informed me they wanted to meet me. I was very apprehensive. I ignored their phone calls and emails for days. When I finally returned their call I told them I was not a hero. Our fellow creation that are surviving the pains of poverty and our fellow Americans who donate to The Time Is Now To Help, making our mission possible, are the true heroes. I was told CNN would bring more recognition to the strife of poverty and this will in turn help more Americans that suffer daily in poverty. I agreed to meet. Within a week a Kathleen Toner, a CNN reporter and Chris, a CNN camera man arrived from New York to film The Time Is Now To Help at work.
The Time is Now to HelpElderly mother in needJuly 21, 2011Dear WC,I was wondering if you could help my elderly mother. She lives in Wisconsin and I am very worried about her. I am a single mom and I live out of state. I must stay here for my job. I do not have the money to visit or move my mother closer to us. I have the space for her if she would be willing to move in. I have tried to get her to move in with us but she always tells me, “No, I will not be a burden, you have it hard enough.”I have not been to see my mother since my father passed away a few years ago. I used to telephone her every week but the last time I talked to her she said she was having her phone disconnected. She said she could not pay the bill. She also said she was having some health troubles but did not want to worry me. I am very worried and do not have any family or friends to check on her. I found your organization online and was hoping you could help my mother.
The Time is Now to HelpFamily struck by cancerJuly 14, 2011Dear W.C., Could you please help my family? We are having a real hard time. Last night we had very little food to share. My Dad has cancer. It is hard to watch him try to stay strong for me when he is so sick and in so much pain. He keeps telling me to not worry about him and things will get better soon. I overheard my parents talking last night and my Mom was crying. They were talking about what my Mom should do when he is gone. How can they talk about that? I don’t know where else to turn for help. A Very Sad Son
The Time is Now for HelpA troubled life after abuseJuly 07, 2011Dear W.C.,I am writing to see if you can help my granddaughter. She and her two children moved in with me several months ago after living out of state with her husband. Her husband was in the military and was seriously injured. He has permanent disabilities and had become abusive. He is angry at the world and she begged him to get help. When he became physically abusive and began to beat her, she knew it was time to leave. He does not want to even see his children. He does not pay any child support. My granddaughter is having such a hard time. She feels sorry for her ex-husband and knows the rest of his life will be a struggle. She has a big heart and life has not been easy for her. Could you please contact me to speak about this further?A Worried Grandmother
The Time is Now to HelpCaring for a special grandsonJune 30, 2011Thank you to everyone who has been contributing to our Lake Geneva Area Realty $40,000 Matching Grant. We are now half way to our goal with donations totaling over $20,000. Thank you for your caring and sharing to help our poverty stricken neighbors. Your support has allowed us to assist thirteen people with utilities to enable them to cook, have lights, run refrigerators and appliances, and allowed seniors and those with health problems to use both heat and air-conditioning. Your support has helped sixteen people to pay their rent and provided emergency shelter for a family at a local motel. We have also been able to provide food, household necessities, and toiletries for families and senior citizens. We have many people still waiting for assistance and look forward to being able to offer them the same helping hand as we progress with this matching grant. When we complete this matching grant we will have been able to relieve the pain and suffering for many of our fellow creations. Thank you for helping. God Bless you.
