Sharon man faces felony burglary charge

A 34-year-old town of Sharon man is accused of burglarizing a home and then running from police. Corey W. Shumak, W7593 Town Hall Road, has been charged with felony burglary, which carries a maximum penalty of 12 1/2 years imprisonment and $25,000 in fines. He also faces a misdemeanor charge, which carries a maximum penalty of nine months in jail and $10,000 in fines.

Woman, boyfriend get jail and probation for child abuse

ELKHORN — Despite a tearful plea and a promise to be a better mother, Judge John Race sentenced Karen Lake, 37, of Lake Geneva, to 60 days in jail with Huber privileges. "Your honor, I come before the court asking for mercy," a tearful Lake said during her sentencing hearing last week. Lake said that she apologized for hurting her son, and added that she will devote herself to mending relations with her son.

A 37-year-old Sharon woman is accused of having sex with two 15-year-old boys in September.Rachael A. McCormick, 218 Baldwin St.,Upper Unit, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child under the age of 16.If convicted, she faces up to 80 years imprisonment and $200,000 in fines.
Man pleads guilty after Amber Alert incident

A 22-year-old Nebraska man, who drove more than 500 miles to have a sexual encounter with a Lake Geneva teenager, pleaded guilty Friday afternoon to a felony charge.In December a 13-year-old Lake Geneva girl went missing, and the local police, FBI and the Department of Criminal Investigations investigated her whereabouts during a more than 24-hour search. After searching her computer, police found communications between the victim and Jacob Cambridge, of Lincoln, Neb. After Cambridge was identified, an Amber Alert was issued for the teenager.
Lake Geneva bank robber gets 8 years prison

ELKHORN — A Genoa City man who robbed several banks in the area, including the PNC and Chase in Lake Geneva, was sentenced Friday afternoon to eight years in prison by Judge John Race.Joshua M. Barrigar, 32, 40500 92nd St., also will spend 12 years on extended supervision.Barrigar’s defense attorney, Travis Schwantes, argued for a 30-year stayed and imposed prison sentence, which means Barrigar would only serve the sentence if he violated the term’s of his probation.
Bay woman allegedly hurts child in car crash

A 27-year-old Williams Bay woman faces felony charges after she allegedly hurt a child while driving intoxicated.Jamie S. Nettesheim, 423 Lakewood Drive, has been charged with operating while intoxicated causing injury, as a second and subsequent offense. If convicted, Nettesheim faces up to six years imprisonment and $10,000 in fines.
Bloomfield couple pleads not guilty to child abuse charges

ELKHORN — The Bloomfield Township couple accused of multiple counts of child abuse against their adopted children pleaded not guilty Sept. 19 to all of the charges, and their attorneys want the case dismissed.The attorneys for Martin, 49, and Kathleen O’Brien, 50, have recently filed motions to dismiss the charges against their clients for violating their right to due process.Assistant District Attorney Diane Donohoo has until Oct. 19 to respond to the motions, and a hearing is set for Nov. 21.

A 29-year-old Pell Lake man is accused of twice having sex with a 13-year-old girl during the summer. Ricky Cervantes, N1205 Hemlock Road, has been charged with repeated sexual assault of a child.If convicted, he faces up to 25 years imprisonment and 15 years of extended supervision.

SUGAR CREEK — A 40-year-old man was arrested Sept. 22 after his pit bulls attacked two Walworth County Sheriff’s deputies as they attempted to take him into custody. Daniel White was arrested and charges against him have been referred to the Walworth County’s District Attorney’s Office for trespassing, battery to a police officer, resisting arrest, failure to comply with an officer and disorderly conduct. At about 12:38 p.m., Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of disorderly man who was on a woman’s property at Oak Lane in the town of Sugar Creek. The 56-year-old woman alleges that White made threatening comments to two juvenile girls that were on her property.
Men face charges after Delavan home invasion

Two men are accused of firing a weapon near a man’s head during a Jan. 28 home invasion in the city of Delavan.During the incident, the man was downstairs, and his girlfriend and baby were upstairs.Adrian Valadez, 23, 328 1/2 E. Walworth Ave., Apt. 4, Delavan, has been charged with attempted armed robbery, armed burglary, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, two counts of false imprisonment with the use of a dangerous weapon and a misdemeanor charge of battery.

Ruegg, 1123 Sheridan Road, has been charged with two felony counts of forgery of an official certification. If convicted, he faces up to 12 years imprisonment and $20,000 in fines.
Man guilty of driving ice cream truck while drunk

A 45-year-old man who was driving an ice cream truck drunk at a campground in May was sentenced to three years of probation.Police arrested Charles G. Stephan, who is now in prison, after receiving calls of an ice cream truck in the Meadowlark Campground in Lyons traveling at a high-rate of speed and honking its horn. The call came in May 27 at about 3 a.m. A Walworth County Sheriff’s deputy was able to locate the vehicle.
