Fresh out of prison for ninth offense, LaPuma arrested in Darien

ELKHORN — Shortly after completing a prison substance-abuse program, a 49-year-old man was arrested in Darien for drunken driving as a 10th offense. Leonard LaPuma, of Chicago, is in custody at the Walworth County jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond. Until January 10, LaPuma was serving a prison sentence for his ninth drunken-driving conviction, and he was only free from custody for a couple of months before his most recent arrest.

Walworth teen faces bail jumping charges

A Walworth Township teenager faces several new felony charges after he allegedly violated the conditions of his bail. Aerian G. Ouska, W7140 Brick Church Road, was charged in March 2012 with second-degree sexual assault of a child. Man arrested for eighth drunken driving offense

A 54-year-old man was arrested on U.S. Highway 43 in the village of East Troy Feb. 2 for eighth-offense drunken driving. If convicted, Paul B. Bernier, of Franklin, faces up to 10 years imprisonment and $10,000 in fines. He also faces a minimum penalty of three years imprisonment. ...subscribers>>

Delavan child molester gets 30 years

ELKHORN — Judge John Race sent a 68-year-old Delavan man, who sexually assaulted two young children, to prison for the 30 years. David L. Burdick, 353 Tyrrell Court, No. 313, pleaded guilty to two counts of repeated sexual assault of the same child. ELKHORN — A 52-year-old Delavan man, who threatened to “start killing children,” was sentenced to three years in prison by Judge John Race.Gerry L. Rogers, W7955 Creek Road, 209, also was sentenced March 25 to three years of extended supervision. A Whitewater man, who shot a dog and stuffed it into a freezer, avoided prison when he was sentenced March 28.Jeffery A. Borre, 39, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of mistreatment of animals, causing death. A felony charge of bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of intentionally killing a dog was dismissed but read into the record.On March 28, Borre was sentenced to one year in prison followed by one year of extended supervision. Veteran faces 12th drunken driving charge

ELKHORN — A U.S. Air Force veteran was arrested in Bloomfield for drunken driving in August, and prosecutors say he has 11 prior convictions in three different states. Fred J. Schneider, 70, of Zion, Ill., faces a felony charge of 12th-offense drunken driving. If convicted, he faces up to 7 1/2 years imprisonment and five years of extended supervision. He pleaded not guilty to the charge Sept. 12, and was set for a jury trial in February.
Man faces five counts of armed robbery

An Elgin, Ill., man faces five armed robbery charges for a series of holdups that occurred throughout Walworth County in the summer of 2009.Terrance Cortez Walker Jr., allegedly held up the Comfort Suites in Lake Geneva, Domino’s Pizza in Delavan, the Williams Bay Citgo, the Mobil Gas Station in Elkhorn and the Lyons Shell Station. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 40 years imprisonment and $100,000 in fines.
Fire leads to felony conviction

A 21-year-old Bloomfield woman pleaded guilty to a felony charge of second-degree recklessly endangering safety after she set the rear of her home on fire by igniting a backpack owned by her child’s father.Destiny C. ELKHORN — A former Williams Bay JV basketball coach, who had a sexual relationship with a student-athlete, pleaded guilty Wednesday afternoon to a felony charge of repeated sexual assault of a child.When Shane S. McKinley, 28, now of Georgetown, Texas, is sentenced May 9, he faces up to 40 years imprisonment and $100,000 in fines. His sentence can include up to 25 years of initial confinement and 15 years of extended supervision.The accusation that McKinley was having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl first came to light in December 2011. Another student became aware of the relationship and informed her father of it. That girl’s father immediately spoke to the victim’s dad.
