Man sentenced for armed robberies

The gunman in an armed robbery spree will be incarcerated until at least 2023 after Judge John Race sent him to prison for another four years. Terrance Cortez Walker Jr., 26, of Elgin, Ill., was connected to a robbery group that was responsible for between 20 and 30 armed robberies in Lake and McHenry County in Illinois and Walworth and Kenosha County. "I would like to apologize to all the people I psychologically and emotionally damaged," Walker said. "I hope that someday they can potentially forgive me."

Man faces sexual assault charges

A 50-year-old Whitewater man faces three felony charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted two young children. Jay E. Zabel, 445 N. Jefferson St., has been charged with first-degree sexual assault, contact with a child under the age of 13; repeated sexual assault of a child and exposing himself in a public area. If convicted of all counts, Zabel faces up to 123 1/2 years imprisonment and $10,000 in fines.

Man charged with homicide after crash

Consolo free from custody after posting $20,000 cash bond

ELKHORN — A 24-year-old Woodstock man who is accused of driving drunk and killing a passenger is free from custody after posting a $20,000 cash bond. Daniel P. Consolo has been charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. Consolo was reportedly driving a Jeep on June 15 when it crashed into a tree. Kevin G. Green, 21, Fontana died as a result of the accident.

BLOOMFIELD — A 41-year-old Bloomfield woman was arrested after she allegedly stabbed a 39-year-old man with a kitchen knife during a domestic abuse incident.On Sunday, June 23 at about 9:45 p.m., police responded to a home on W. Lake Shore Drive for a report of a stabbing.Both Michelle Meinen and Jonathan Giese were transported to the hospital after police responded to the home.
Delavan man gets two years in prison

A 21-year-old Delavan man was sent June 14 to a state prison for two years for possessing a firearm as a felon. On April 25 a Walworth County jury cleared Blake A. Kruizenga of most of the charges that were filed against him by the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office, but found him guilty of one felony. Kruizenga was accused of entering a man’s home with a firearm and burglarizing it. However, the jury found him not guilty of felony counts of armed robbery, burglary while armed with a dangerous weapon, first-degree recklessly endangering safety and two counts of false imprisonment. He was also found not guilty of misdemeanor battery. ...subscribers>>
Former Pell Lake man guilty of sexual assault

A Walworth County jury found a 29-year-old former Pell Lake man guilty of three sexual assault charges on Thursday night. Larry J. Smith, now of Delavan, was found guilty of two counts of repeated sexual assault of a child and sexual assault of a child under the age of 16. Smith is being held in the Walworth County jail while he awaits sentencing. When he is sentenced Sept. 12 at 8:30 a.m. in front of Judge David Reddy, he faces up to 120 years imprisonment and $300,000 in fines. ...subscribers>>
Man gets prison for drunken driving

ELKHORN — A Walworth man was sentenced June 3 to 7 1/2 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to two separate felony charges of seventh-offense drunken driving.Michael B. Thomas, 51, W6066 Water Tower Place, was arrested Aug. 25 and Nov. 19 for drunken driving. Before the two most recent convictions, Thomas had six prior drunken-driving convictions.Thomas also was sentenced to 10 years of extended supervision, and was ordered to pay $5,000 in fines. ...subscribers>>

A 35-year-old man was sentenced June 7 to two years of probation after pleading guilty to a felony charge of burglary.Corey W. Shumak, now of Watertown and formerly of Walworth, also was sentenced to four months in jail with work-release privileges. Not enough press to change venue in attempted murder case

ELKHORN — The press coverage in an attempted homicide case hasn’t poisoned a potential jury pool enough to justify a change in venue Judge John Race ruled on Friday afternoon. In addition to the two attempted homicide charges, Larry M. Shannon, 41, of Whitewater, faces nine other felonies and three misdemeanors. Shannon was arrested in October after he allegedly cut the throats of two children, beat their mother and then fled from police in a car in both Rock and Walworth counties, according to court documents.

A woman who received nearly a half a million dollars in stolen money is sitting in jail without bond as she awaits a sentencing hearing and a possible prison sentence.And to make matters worse for the woman, she has another jury trial set for June 13, and, if convicted of those charges, she faces even more time behind bars. Joanne M. Anderson, 50, now of Kentucky, was found guilty by a Walworth County jury May 22 of receiving stolen property.
