March 11, 2014 | 11:51 AMWe cannot thank Fox Charities enough for all the poverty assistance they have provided for our fellow creations. Fox Charities recent matching grant incentive has helped The Time Is Now to Help immensely in our much needed fundraising this winter. Your generous donations, matched by Fox Charities, provided the following assistance for our fellow creations.
This is how all of us helped:
Rent/shelter = $25,515
More than 50 people were provided shelter assistance thanks to your kind donations this winter. We helped many disabled, senior citizens, veterans, single mothers and fathers, children, working poor families … all were prevented the devastation of eviction, homelessness, despair. Rental assistance was provided to help their budgets. Also, emergency housing was provided in a motel for families, a single mother with children and a handicapped veteran. Life is tough for many of our fellow creations. Providing adequate shelter continues to be a struggle.
Utilities = $13,500
Electricity: $6,050 | Gas: $6,550
Thanks to the Fox Charities $25,000 matching grant, and your generosity, we paid overdue gas, electric and water utilities. Our extreme winter weather continues to cause some of the highest utility bills in years. There was a shortage in propane that caused prices to climb. We filled the propane tank for a handicapped couple about to do without heat, hot water and cooking fuel.
Many would have faced service disconnections as they were unable to pay the extreme expense to heat their homes, apartments and mobile homes. Together we have prevented pipes from bursting, adding an additional expense and burden for our fellow creations in need of heat. We have also prevented the disconnection of water/sewer utilities for two families and a senior citizen. If you lived on a fixed or reduced income what would you choose to do without first? Food? Shelter? Water? Transportation? Many of us are so blessed to not have to make that decision. Thanks to Fox Charities and all of us together, many of our neighbors in need will not have to make that decision either.
Food = $2,631.69
Our food gift cards and emergency food deliveries are a welcome relief for many living with hunger. Senior citizens were able to purchase healthy food choices versus going without. Children had enough to eat on days they were not at school receiving their free/reduced breakfast and lunch program.
Transportation = $6,454.58
We are very busy with providing car repairs, tires, car safety checks, and providing safe donated vehicles to our fellow Americans. Much needed gas gift cards were given to those struggling to get to work and/or medical appointments. This assistance is very important to our mission as it is often the key to maintaining employment and allowing people to receive their health care.
Home repairs = $736.73
A single mother came to us in desperation over the need for a furnace repair in her modest home. The mother and children were living without adequate heat for several weeks before turning to The Time Is Now to Help for assistance.
Beds = $1,162
Again, I am finding people living without proper mattresses. Many of these disabled and senior citizens are turning to us for beds after they have slept on chairs or couches for months. Is this any way for our poverty stricken elderly to live? They come to me in pain and suffering from disabilities that would be alleviated by a simple mattress and box spring. They are so appreciative of this gift. I have seen tears many times over the gift of a new mattress, box spring and bed frame.
Grand total: $50,000
Every penny you donated, along with Fox Charities $25,000 matching funds, went to assist the poverty stricken.
My dear readers and friends, what we do together is so special. Helping our fellow creations, our caring and sharing, doing our good works, is life changing for those we help. Together we will continue to remove the many pains of poverty including, hunger, loneliness, fear and homelessness during this harsh winter.
Health and happiness,
God bless everyone,

Storage space needed
The W.C. Food Pantry is desperately in need of 1,000 sq. ft. + donated storage space in Lake Geneva, Elkhorn or Delavan. An overhead door is necessary. It can be heated or unheated. A loading dock would be a huge plus.
The W.C. Food Pantry is working hard to provide good food along with other items such as pet food, toiletries and other desperately needed daily necessities. All this requires the space to store these items when donated in large quantities.
Please contact Jim Drescher at (262) 745-6018 if you can help the food pantry.
