December 08, 2011 | 10:29 AMLINN TOWNSHIP — The search for a 76-year-old Sugar Creek man who went missing Wednesday ended Thursday afternoon after police pulled the man and his vehicle out of Geneva Lake near the "Robinson Hillside" boat launch.
Richard J. Coogan was reported missing Wednesday afternoon. The Walworth County Sheriff's Department issued a press release stating Coogan left his residence in his 2003 Cadillac Seville to drive to the city of Delavan, but he never made it to his destination.
According to an updated press release, at about 12:15 p.m. Dec. 8, the Walworth County Sheriff's Department and the Linn Township Police Department pulled Coogan's vehicle out of Geneva Lake, which was 50 feet offshore and completely under water.
Coogan's body was recovered from the water and he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. This case remains under investigation.
In yesterday's press release, the Walworth County Sheriff's Department reported that Coogan has not been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but does have occasional memory loss problems.
