January 25, 2012 | 07:55 AMDELAVAN — Dan Necci, 32, has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Walworth County District Attorney.
Necci is the secomd to formally announce for the seat, which in all probability will be vacated this April by Walworth County District Attorney Phil Koss,
Koss is running unopposed for Walworth County Circuit judge.
Richard Sullivan, 42, of Walworth, a Rock County assistant district attorney, announced he was running for Walworth County DA in December.
Necci lives in Delavan and has a law office in Elkhorn.
He ran as one of six candidates in the 2010 Republican primary for the 32nd Assembly District.
"It is with equally great excitement and modesty, that, after having been approached by many of our community leaders and asked to consider this position, I formally announce my candidacy for District Attorney of Walworth County," Necci said in a press release dated Jan. 23.
Necci is claiming endorsements by Village of Walworth Chief of Police Chris Severt, State Representative Tyler August, City of Delavan Mayor Mel Nieuwenhuis, Williams Bay Village President and former Genoa City Chief of Police John Marra, Attorney Lowell Sweet, Bob Rauland of Rauland Realty in Walworth, and Sgt. Tom Hausner of the Walworth County Sheriff's Department.
Necci issued a statement that says, in part, "As your district attorney, I intend to carry on the traditions of those who have come before me in this office of tough, fair prosecutions and a dogged commitment to victims' rights.
"But I also have a vision for this office that goes beyond anything done before.
"I see the district attorney's office as the CEO of a very important company whose primary product is not just convictions, not even just justice, but a constant struggle to improve the lives of the people of Walworth County.
"I feel privileged, honored, and truly inspired that so many of our community leaders, from many different walks of life, share and publically support my vision for our future."
Necci lives in Delavan with his wife, Brittany, and two children, Lillian, 4, and Isabella, 3,
Necci coaches Delavan Red Devils Football, is a member of the Lakeshores Library Board appointed by the Walworth County Board, is active in his church, Calvary Community in Williams Bay.
He is a former member of the Walworth County Republican Party Executive Board.
In his statement, Necci invited those interested to check his website at dannecci.com, or to call him personally at (262) 844-0581.
For the first time in 21 years, the office of district attorney will be without an incumbent.
Koss announced in November that he intends to run for Walworth County Circuit Court Judge, Branch 1 in April.
That seat is being vacated by Judge Robert Kennedy, who is retiring.
Right now it appears almost certain Koss will be the next Branch 1 judge.
He is the only candidate who has filed for that seat.
Barring unforseen events, an interim Walworth County District Attorney will be appointed by the governor.
The interim DA will hold the seat until the 2013 election for Walworth County officers.
