The Walworth County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 12-year-old town of Sharon boy who died early Friday morning.

Walworth County Sheriff David Graves said the Sharon Middle School student apparently shot himself with a long gun in the backyard of his home on Salt Box Road.

He said the shooting was "probably not an accident."

Sharon Police Chief Brad Buchholz said the incident occurred about 7 a.m.

The victim's 8-year-old brother saw what was happening and ran out to the recently-arrived school bus and asked the school bus driver for help, Graves said. The bus driver found the boy's body.

Graves said the family's routine was that the boys' parents would leave for work, and five minutes later the bus would pick up the boys and take them to school.

Officers from the town of Linn and the village of Walworth were closest and initially responded to the call, Graves said. The Sheriff's Office is now conducting the investigation.
