The Walworth County Sheriff's Department has identified the suspect in Friday's bank robbery of the People's Bank North in the town of Sugar Creek and the Walworth County Sheriff's Deputy who shot him.

Robert C. Lynn, 29, of the town of Bloomfield, is being held on a probation hold. The Sheriff's Department referred charges against him to the district attorney's office for robbery of a financial institution, false imprisonment, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, felon in possession of a firearm, intimidation of a victim, theft and fleeing and eluding.

According to the press release, Lynn was allegedly fleeing from the scene of the robbery when police attempted to deploy stop sticks to end the chase. Lynn allegedly drove the vehicle around the stop sticks and at the deputy who was placing them in the road.

Walworth County Sheriff's Deputy Dan Nichols, 27, fired his service weapon at Lynn and wounded him. Nichols has been a deputy for five years.

On August 24, at about 2:11 p.m. the Walworth County Dispatchers received a call from the People's Bank North, which is located at the intersection of Highways 12, 67 and County Highway A.

The employee advised the bank had just been robbed by a man brandishing a handgun. The employee gave a description of the man involved and his vehicle.

After dispatch received the call, a Wisconsin State Trooper located a vehicle matching the description provided by the bank employee and attempted to stop it.

However, the vehicle didn't stop and a chased ensued that reached speeds of more than 80 mph. The chase went between Waukesha and Walworth counties.

The chase ended at 2:27 p.m. when Nichols shot the alleged bank robber.

Online court records show that Lynn is serving a two-year probation after he was convicted this year of misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office is investigating the officer involved in the shooting. The Walworth County Sheriff's Department and the FBI is investigating the bank robbery.

The press release states this an ongoing and open investigation.

Wasn't Deputy Nichols Deputy of the Year in '11? Anyway, I'm glad he's okay physically. Lord knows shooting someone can't be easy.

Honestly I know Bobby personally. I never thought he would do something like this. He's not a murderer. I wish I would have known why he had done this. Locking him up and throw away the key? REALLY? HE DIDN'T MURDER ANYONE. Really angers me to hear you say such a thing. Yes I understand what he did was terrible, but he has always been the greatest help to me and others. There could have been seriously wrong with his life. People can say what you want, but I still care about him.

    Stephannie,

That's nice that you care for him and all...But he deserves everything he has coming at him. Obviously there's something seriously wrong with his life!!! What gave you that idea? He took the complete wrong action to fix it though; he terrorized innocent people! They will be scarred for the rest of their lives. Scared forever. At home, at work, in the grocery store. How do you move past a traumatic situation like that?

Imagine have a gun SHOVED IN YOUR FACE. All his victims were doing what they do every day...working. They don't need to deal with this. No one should have to go through this.

He sure sounds like a nice guy...He's lucky to still have his life, and that's all he deserves until he has plenty of time to think about what he has done. Hopefully his jail time is put to good use rather than becoming another lifer. I pray that everyone involved learns from this situation.
