On Oct. 14, at about 1:33 p.m., police were dispatched to Town Hall Road, town of Walworth, for a burglary where the suspect had just run from the owner's barn.

The caller followed the suspect's vehicle and told dispatch that it was parked in a parking lot on Wisconsin Street in the village of Walworth.

Walworth Police Department Lt. Andy Long responded to the vehicle and observed the driver as Shumak. Long reported that Shumak was breathing heavily and wasn't wearing a shirt.

Shumak told police he pulled over because he got into an argument with his girlfriend and needed to cool off.

Long told Shumak to remain seated while Long talked to the witness.

When Long was talking to the witness, Shumak fled running behind buildings and attempting to hide behind a bush.

During the chase, an employee of a nearby business tackled Shumak.

A Walworth County sheriff's deputy spoke to the homeowner, who said that he returned to his home and saw a vehicle parked at the edge of a nearby cornfield.

As he pulled into his driveway, he saw a man holding a black bag and a tool box running from his barn.

The homeowner's neighbor also saw the man running and followed the man's vehicle until it was stopped by police.

Shumak told police that he entered the barn without permission for tools to fix his vehicle.

He said he ran from the homeowner because he was scared, and he later ran from police because he possessed marijuana.
