Creating a Facebook page has landed a registered sex offender in the Walworth County jail for four months, without work release privileges.

Brian C. Chapman, 28, Geneva Township, pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to a felony charge of failing to maintain the sex offender registry.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Nov. 5, the Sex Offender Registry Program received a message stating Chapman created and was maintaining a Facebook profile.

On March 19, 2010, Chapman was sentenced to two years in prison for violating the sex offender registry.

A condition of his extended supervision was that he couldn't use the Internet.

Chapman was released from prison Sept. 4 and created his Facebook account on Sept. 21.

He is required to report any accounts, websites, Internet addresses or Internet profiles that he has to the Sex Offender Registry.

Chapman was convicted in 2004 for possessing child pornography.
