Man gets probation, jail for growing pot

A 33-year-old Walworth man was sentenced to jail and probation after he was arrested for growing marijuana.

Shaun E. Hillary, 104 Webber St. Apt. 6B, plead guilty to manufacturing THC, in an amount greater than 2,500 grams.

Additional felony charges of maintaining a drug trafficking place and substantial battery were dismissed but read into the record.

Hillary was sentenced to four years of probation.

As a condition of his probation, he must spend 12 months in jail with work-release privileges and pay a $500 fine.

In a separate case, Hillary pleaded guilty to second-offense drunken driving charge.

For that charge he must spend an additional 30 days in jail with work-release privileges.

According to the criminal complaint on the substantial battery charge:

On June 9 police responded to Aurora Lakeland Medical Center because a man was admitted with a broken jaw.

The victim told police that Hillary punched him in the face while they were playing darts.

According to the criminal complaint on the drug charge:

On May 21 police searched a single-family home in the town of Delavan in which Hillary was the sole occupant.

In an upstairs room, police found 62 marijuana plants that were between 1 and 3 feet tall.
