ELKHORN — A 23-year-old Kenosha man, who was arrested by the Walworth County Drug Unit with more than five grams of heroin in his possession, was sentenced Nov. 20 to eight years in a state prison.

Juan J. Hernandez Jr., plead guilty Nov. 20 to delivering heroin and possession of heroin with intent to deliver. On each count Hernandez was sentenced to four years in prison and three years of extended supervision.

Hernandez’s sister, Ana M. Garza, who was hiding heroin in her bra at the time of her arrest, plead guilty Nov. 25 to possession of a narcotic drug. Garza was sentenced to two years of probation. If she completes her probation without violations she can have her record expunged.

Felony charges of delivering heroin and possession of heroin with intent to deliver were dismissed but read into the record.

According to the criminal complaint:

On June 6, 2012, the Walworth County Drug Unit worked with a confidential informant who purchased heroin in a parking lot on Edwards Boulevard.

Deputies saw a black Nissan in the parking lot where the confidential informant was waiting. Deputies saw an adult male and female passenger and two children in the back seat.

The confidential informant returned to the deputies with 2.83 grams of heroin for which he paid $360. He identified the adult male as Hernandez and the woman as his sister, Garza.

On July 20, the informant made arrangements with Hernandez to purchase five grams of heroin.

Sheriff deputies stopped the black Nissan on Highway 50 near Deerpath Road and arrested Hernandez and Garza.

At the Walworth County Jail, Garza admitted that she had heroin hidden inside of her bra. Garza said she hid the heroin because Hernandez handed it to her and said, “put it somewhere.”

Hernandez admitted to deputies that he had given the heroin, which weighed 5.53 grams, to his sister to hide.
