An 11-year-old town of Sharon boy was shot around 12:30 p.m. July 9 in the town of Sharon.

Eric Gutierrez was transported to Mercy Hospital in Janesville, where his mother said on Facebook that the family was keeping him on life support until organ donor recipients could be found.

At 12:38 a.m. July 10, Eric was declared brain dead.

According to Facebook posts from his mother, the boy was shot accidently.

The Walworth County Sheriff's Department released a short statement after 10 a.m. July 10.

"Sheriff's deputies and the Sharon Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding a person shot in the head (on July 9)," the statement says. "The incident occurred in a wooded area behind N1602 Highway K in the town of Sharon. Deputies located a male juvenile with a head wound."

"He was not playing with guns," the mother posted on Facebook Wednesday evening.

The Sheriff's Department statement says a 13-year-old boy was questioned and a handgun was located and collected at the scene.

"We will keep him on life support for everyone to say goodbye then donate his organs," Eric's mother wrote on Facebook. "Please pray for me and my family. I really need it."

The Sheriff's Department says they are continuing to investigate the shooting.
