ELKHORN — Police have identified the second victim in the suitcase murder investigation as a Cottage Grove, Ore. woman.

Jenny M. Gamez was reportedly killed in Kenosha County in late 2012 or early 2013, according to the criminal compliant. At the time of her death, she was 19.

Police have arrested and taken into custody Steven M. Zelich, 52, of West Allis. Zelich is a former police officer with the West Allis Police Department.

The other victim was earlier identified as Laura Simonson, 37, of Rochester, Minn. It is believed she was killed at a hotel in Olmstead County, Minn.

Zelich is being held in Walworth County on two charges of hiding a corpse. His bond was set at $1 million.

It is up to prosecutors in Kenosha County and in Olmsted County, Minn. to file charges in those jurisdictions. On Friday afternoon, District Attorney Daniel Necci said the charges Zelich is facing in Walworth are “small potatoes” compared to what he might face in other jurisdictions.
