Elkhorn — A man who killed a 9-year-old boy while speeding and driving in the wrong lane of traffic received the maximum sentence for his crime Thursday afternoon.
Jeremy C. Dees, 33, 270 W. Centralia St., was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and five years extended supervision.
Carter M. Dorwin, who was a student at Eastview Elementary School at the time of his accident, was killed Nov. 16 after Dees' vehicle struck the Dorwin's car on Highway H in Geneva Township near the Como Flats.
The vehicle Dees struck was being driven by Carter's mother, Nicole, and his younger brother, Bradley, 4, was also a passenger in the car. Both Bradley and Nicole suffered injuries as a result of the crash.
The impact of the accident was so great the Dorwin's vehicle couldn't be seen from the road after the collision.
