The U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship, a major component of Lake Geneva's Winterfest, officially is over and it is up to the judges to determine a winner.

Thousands have flocked and will continue to visit Riviera Park to see the sculptures, which now are melting because of the sun and 40-degree temperatures. Voting currently is going on and winners will be announced at 3 p.m. today, Saturday. However Winterfest will go on despite the weather as activities are being held in the Riviera Ballroom, helicopter rides on the beach and specials in many local shops.

But it is typically the snow sculptures people travel from far and wide to see. Looking for photos of the sculpting and some of the final works made of snow? Check out our Facebook page by clicking the Facebook icon in the menu bar above.

The competition started with 3-ton, 10-foot tall cylinders of packed, manmade snow. Sculpting started Wednesday and was completed this morning at 11 a.m.

Sculptors had to make some adjustments as the week went on because of the unseasonably warm temperatures.

    cylinders on Thursday?

Would it have helped to pack the cylinders on Thursday early morning instead of Monday? Seemed like many didn't start carving until Thursday. Granted it would still melt but it would have saved 3 days of just sitting in the sun getting soft. I'd be glad to help if it's a time thing, I'm sure others would chip in too. Just a thought.

Weell while the Nice Warm weather was not Welcomed by some, it sure was by most.. Imagine Last yr at this time?

The Town and Businesses were Packed and everyone was walking around like it was Springtime

I'm glad the city put up Baracades by the Boat Ramp.. I'm sure some would have tried to walk out , if not drive out onto the Lake.
