October 08, 2013 | 02:35 PMIt’s down to two.
There are now two candidates in the running for the new president of the Geneva Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.
Board chairman John Stensland said the field was whittled down from 67 applicants who were identified by a search firm.
Five were interviewed by a committee of the chamber over a two-day period at the end of September.
Two finalists were chosen. They’ll be interviewed over a two-day period within the next couple of weeks, Stensland said. A final decision is expected by the end of October.
Stensland declined to identify the candidates by name because the final decision has not been made, but he said both were from Wisconsin and had previously been involved in chambers.
“Either one would be phenomenal,” Stensland said.
The president’s position has been vacant since the chamber announced in May that George Hennerly had retired after 33 years as chamber head.
The search has been headed by SearchWide, a Minnesota executive recruitment company that was chosen in part because of its experience in hiring executives for the hospitality business. It’s expected that the job will pay between $80,000 and $100,000 per year.
According to the job description, the president is responsible for developing and effectively managing an annual budget and ensuring financial soundness and transparency.
