No one hurt in school bus crash

January 14, 2014 | 05:01 PM
LINN — Seven students from Reek School were transported to the hospital on Jan. 10 after a school bus collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of County Highway B and Zenda Road.

The Linn Police Department, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol responded to the accident at about 12:19 p.m.

There were 17 students on the bus at the time of the accident, and the students seated near the impact of the crash were transported to the hospital.

“This was done primarily for precautionary reasons as there were no signs of serious injury in those students,” Sgt. James Bushey wrote in an email. “Students were reunited with their parents, and the remaining 10 students that were not transported to the hospital were transported back to Reek School where they were reunited with their parents.”

Douglas E. Billings of Elkhorn was driving the school bus and Scott S. Aubin of Lake Geneva was driving the pickup truck. Because of the severity of the crash, both Billings and Aubin were taken to the hospital and released the same day.

“No notable injuries were sustained,” Bushey said.

Bushey said the bus failed to yield the right of way to the pickup truck, which was traveling west on Highway B.

“It appears that the initial information received through questioning both drivers that the bus driver may not have seen the white pickup truck traveling westbound on Highway B due to the weather being somewhat foggy that day,” Bushey said.
