Lake Geneva police are investigating a series of burglaries in which three buildings were broken into, and six businesses were victimized.

Lake Geneva Police Lt. Ed Gritzner said the Red Geranium restaurant, the Mercy Health System clinic on Peller Road and the Geneva Village Shops at Broad and Geneva streets were all burglarized.

The burglaries occurred between 10 p.m. May 11 and 6 a.m. May 12, Gritzner said.

At the Geneva Village Shops, the coffee shop, bookstore, cooking school and children's clothing store were all broken into.

In all six cases, entry was gained by prying open doors, Gritzner said.

And, in all six cases, only cash was taken, he said.

Police estimate that less than $1,000 was taken total from all six businesses.

He said police don't know the sequence of when the buildings were broken into, although investigators do believe that the burglaries are related.

Gritzner said it's unusual for a series of buildings to be broken into in the city.

And apparently the burgler really wanted cash, because valuable items were left behind, undisturbed.

"Whoever did this was desperate," Gritzner said.

He said anyone who saw anything suspicious around those businesses between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. May 11 and 12 should call the Lake Geneva Police Department at (262) 248-4455.
