The Walworth County Civil Air Patrol is contacting Walworth County residents to inform them of the organization.

The CAP is based in Elkhorn at the National Guard Armory. It serves the entire county.

All types of governmental agencies readily call upon the Civil Air Patrol when professional searches are needed to look for children, elderly or mentally impaired individuals who may be missing. It also aids in the search and rescue at an airplane crash site and other types of emergency situations, such as tornadoes, broken dams and floods. Occasionally it has been asked to help at large parades with crowd control.

"With today's escalation of terrorism we, as a full composite squadron, must be ready at any moment's notice and fully equipped to help our community," accord to a press release. "If an act of terrorism hits our area the police and fire departments will already have their hands full and will be requiring the assistance of any and all available agencies. The Civil Air Patrol is considered an intricate part of homeland security. This means we are here to serve you, your family, friends and neighbors."

The Walworth County CAP is raising funds to help supply the educational needs for its new cadets. This will aid in teaching aerospace education and leadership, the art of search and rescue, and other emergency services. The Civil Air Patrol is a self-supportive structure that relies on donations. It is not funded by the government.

All donations are tax deductible. A cash donation of any size would help immensely. Checks can be made out to WALCO-CAP Squadron 184. All donations can be mailed to WALCO-CAP Squadron 184, Attention: donations, 209 East South St., Lake Geneva, WI 53147.
