Lyons — Back in 1968, Hugh Hefner expanded his Playboy empire to the Geneva Lake area, specifically a Club-Hotel where the current Grand Geneva Resort and Spa is located.

Waitresses dressed in bunny costumes and occasional visits from actual Playboy bunnies provided an electricity in the area.

Playboy finished operations in 1981. Now, 29 years later, about 200 former employees of the Lake Geneva Playboy Club-Hotel are expected to gather for a reunion Saturday, July 10 at the Grand Geneva.

A cocktail and buffet are planned for the Evergreen Room, formerly known as the Penthouse Room and the Cabaret during Playboy International's tenure. The reunion is a private party open to any individual along with a guest who worked at the Club-Hotel in its 13-year run.

Event organizer Dan Markus said those years were a special time.

"About a year ago, we thought it would be fun to get together with old friends that we hadn't seen in so very many years," he said. "Many of us feel that the time we spent working for Playboy was special. We made so many friends there, and it's a shame that we've scattered to the four corners and lost track of each other. So what do you do when that happens? You put together a reunion."

Markus, a former busboy and room captain at Playboy from 1970 to 1974, said that word of mouth in the last couple weeks has really heightened the popularity and anticipation of the event.

Pam Crater, a former Playboy bunny at the Lake Geneva Club, said responses have came in from as far away as Miami, San Diego, Colorado, Little Rock, Ark. and Pennsylvania, along with dozens from the Lake Geneva area.

"The overwhelming enthusiasm has been heart-warming," Crater said. "It's like hearing from long-lost family."

Crater said they're still contacting former employees, especially in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

For more information, former employees are encouraged to contact organizers at playboyreunion@aol.com.
