Area football schedules released

July 29, 2010 | 03:11 PM
High school football schedules were recently released, and that could spell good news for Badger and Williams Bay but prove troublesome for Big Foot.

Badger, who finished 9-3 overall last year, will have to travel to Burlington and Waterford but will host Delavan-Darien and Union Grove, two squads the locals lost to last year.

The Bulldogs will earn their first victory since 2007 because Madison Abundant Life can't field a team. The forfeit win will account for at least one win, and this year the Bay has five home games and doesn't have to battle small-school powerhouse Brookfield Academy, who badly routed them last year.

As far as the defending Division 4 champion Chiefs (14-0 last year), it could be a bumpy road. They lost studs Michael Walker, Nathan Nagel, Dustin Sorrentino, Steve Dowden, Alec McGreevy and several others to graduation, so they will test their luck this year with mostly first-year starters at quarterback, running back and receiver.

Big Foot will have three very difficult road games at Harvard, Ill., Brodhead and McFarland.

However, Rodney Wedig has led the Chiefs to seven straight playoff appearances, and I don't see that stopping anytime soon.

Equipment day for area teams is Monday, Aug. 9, and the first practices will be Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Here are the area's schedules (home games in BOLD and all games kick off at 7 p.m.):
