It appears Tyler August has won the Republican primary in the 32nd Assembly District, after a recount put him three votes ahead of Adam Gibbs.

At the end of voting on Sept. 14, Gibbs held an unofficial lead of four votes over August.

Six candidates ran in the primary, but it was Gibbs and August who were neck-and-neck to the end. When it appeared that Gibbs had won the election with just four votes out of nearly 7,000 ballots cast, August filed for the recount.

The recount was conducted in Walworth and Kenosha counties. Kenosha County has just one town, Wheatland, in the 32nd District. Walworth County has 19 in the district, and the recount there took five days.

In a statement early Monday, Gibbs said he was still considering an appeal of the recount in court, but he seemed to leaning away from that.

"At this point, it wouldn't benefit Tyler, it wouldn't benefit me, it wouldn't benefit the Republican Party," Gibbs said of an appeal.

    Interesting news of the recount
    September 29, 2010 | 11:44 AM

Well, congratulations Mr. August. It seems that the recount has at least put someone in the candidates seat with at least some related experience that goes with the job. I think Doug Harrod on the Democratic side still has a good chance to represent the area in the state assembly and residents should look forward to an interesting campaign. While we should encourage young people to get involved with the political process, I still think those of us 60 somethings have an edge on the experience side, no matter what party you represent. Sorry about all the money wasted on signs Mr. Gibbs.
