October 13, 2010 | 08:58 AM Geneva Township — The public will have a chance to hear the candidates who are vying for the 32nd State Assembly debate Oct. 19 at the Lodge at Geneva Ridge.
The Geneva Lake West Chamber is hosting the event in conjunction with its semi-annual member showcase.
Both events are free and open to the public. The members showcase will run from 5 to 8 p.m. and the candidates forum will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
There are four candidates seeking the seat, which was vacated after Rep. Thomas Lothian opted not to seek re-election.
The candidates are:
n Republican Tyler August, of Walworth, is the former Chief of Staff for Lothian.
n Democrat Doug Harrod, of Bloomfield Township, is a long-time former Badger football coach and teacher.
n Independent Daniel Kilkenny, of Delavan, is a County Board supervisor.
n Independent Rick Pappas, of Fontana, serves on the village's Protection Committee, Lakefront and Harbor Committee and Board of Review.
The forum will be moderated by Joseph McHugh.
"We are proud to provide this opportunity for candidates and voters to interact on important issues that confront our local governments," McHugh said. "It is great to see the democratic process in action."
The event also include door and raffle prizes and complimentary appetizers and refreshments. A cash bar will be available.
A spokeswoman from the Geneva Lake West Chamber of Commerce said it has been successful in the past to host the Candidates Forum and Member Showcase together.
"Hosting these two events simultaneously is a wonderful way to provide valuable information to the residents and business owners in our communities," Member Showcase Chair Kristina Staude said. "With the continued support of our major sponsors such as the Lodge at Geneva Ridge, HOME DESIGN MFG., and The Lake Geneva Regional News this year's event is sure to be a success."
