October 15, 2010 | 04:06 PM Racine - Police have determined the body of a woman found near her vehicle on 6th and Memorial in Racine is Lake Geneva's Sandra Teichow.
Teichow, 67, was found Thursday at about 4 p.m. at a park in that location. A person of interest is in custody as investigators treat the death as a homicide. Teichow was a 30-year resident of Walworth County and lived in Lake Geneva for more than 15 years.
In 2007, Teichow and her husband Denny, spent 16 days traveling across all 135 bridges in the United States that go over the Mississippi River. The Regional News wrote a feature story about the couple and their trip.
"This really woke me up to the beauty of our country," Sandy said in 2007.
Denny and Sandy claimed "in the absence of evidence to the contrary, to be the first people ever to cross every auto bridge on the entire length of the Mississippi River."
Last year Sandy wrote a letter to the editor of the Regional News talking about the beauty of Library Park and how it was being lost because of projects such as the West End Pier and additional boats.
The Teichows were involved with the local community though the Lake Geneva Historic Preservation Committee and also performed volunteer work overseas.
See next week's Regional News for more on this murder investigation and the Teichows.
Never was a person born with more spirit and willingness to help others than Sandra. She inspired both my wife and myself at each meeting with her and then her wonderful husband Denny. A born leader with great compassion for mankind as a whole. No one, especially Sandra, deserves to be killed in such a terrible way. The world will be a worse place at her loss.
Please give me a call ASAP at (262) 248-8096 to talk about Sandy and Denny for the Regional News story. Or, you could e-mail me at lisa@lakegenevanews.net.
I was fortunate enough to know Sandra for a short while as we both worked at a local resort. What I will always remember about her was her soft-spoken demeanor and her luminous smile. I know anyone else that got the opportunity to know this wonderful woman will agree that she was very special. It will sadden me the rest of my life to think that such an impeccable life was cut short.
I was honored to have known Sandra. She was such a sweet and kind woman to speak with. I met Sandra at FLAC in Elkhorn subbing for Yoga, she attended classes regurarly and loved Yoga. She will be missed at FLAC and everyone I have spoken to there is in total disbelief and shock.
