Geneva — A 9-year-old Eastview Elementary School student died early Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle crash on Highway H.

Carter Michael Dorwin was pronounced dead at the scene at about 8:08 a.m. by Walworth County Coroner John Griebel, according to a statement from town of Geneva police officer Ken Mulhollon.

In the same vehicle as Carter was the driver and his mother, Nicole L. Dorwin, 36, and his brother, Bradley Dorwin, 4. The Dorwins reside in the Lake Como subdivision.

Nicole and Bradley Dorwin were taken to Lakeland Medical Center for treatment of their injuries and released.

The driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle, Jeremy C. Dees, 33, was flown to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee because of his injuries.

Mulhollon said Dees is in police custody.

"We believe alcohol may be a contributing factor in the crash," Mulhollon stated.

According to police, the town department and the Walworth County Sheriff's Department responded to the call at about 6:58 a.m.

"The initial investigation revealed Mr. Dees' vehicle to have crossed over the yellow center line and collided into the driver side passenger door of the Dorwin vehicle, where Carter Dorwin was sitting," Mulhollon stated.

Online court records indicate Dees has seen his share of legal troubles. He has been found guilty of charges in Sheboygan, Rock and Marathon counties. Most recently, he was convicted of third-offense operating while intoxicated after a complaint was filed Nov. 28, 2007. He also has been found guilty of other alcohol- and drug-related charges, disorderly conduct and battery.

The Lake Geneva Fire Department also responded to the crash.

On Tuesday, Capt. Mark Moller-Gunderson said when he responded to the scene, both vehicles stopped in the marshes of the Como Flats.

"Our crews did a great job extricating (Dees)," Moller-Gunderson said.

He said a Fire Department squad car, two ambulances and three chiefs responded to the call.

An attempt to reach Eastview Principal Colin Nugent for comment was unsuccessful by press time.
