Elkhorn — A police raid last January of a Linn Township home yielded more than 150 marijuana plants, 150 grams of the drug and materials used for growing dope.

Freddie G., 44, and Amy B. Rickel, 40, N1510 Geneva Ave., each pleaded guilty Dec. 17 to felony charges of manufacturing marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver in Walworth County Court. The Rickels also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Rickels are scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 1 by Judge John Race. The felony charges carry a maximum penalty of 16 years imprisonment $35,000 in fines. The misdemeanor charges carries a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Amy is a former member of the community club at Traver Elementary School.

On Jan. 8, the Walworth County Drug Unit raided two homes located on Geneva Avenue in Linn Township.

Inside one of the homes, police found 159 growing marijuana plants, grow lights, baffles and timers, dehumidifiers, potting soil, chemicals, drying racks, packaging materials and scales.

Amy told police she and her husband use a home to grow marijuana and to store materials for their necktie business, according to the criminal complaint.

In addition to the plants, police seized 150 grams of trimmed marijuana buds from the drying area of the basement.

More than 20 separate plastic bags containing marijuana also were found in the basement.

When a deputy from the Sheriff's Department questioned Amy, she said she waters the marijuana daily. She allegedly told the deputy she trimmed, weighed and packaged the marijuana for sale.

Freddie told police that he learned to grow marijuana from books and that he has a "green thumb."

He also told police he earned about $8,000 a month selling marijuana.
