Traffic warning: Expect congestion on I-43 Saturday

June 22, 2011 | 07:17 PM
Elkhorn-- Drivers using Interstate 43 and Walworth County Highway D are warned of serious traffic congestion this weekend, according to the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.

Road construction underway on I- 43 between Elkhorn and the Waukesha County line in both directions, and replacement of the Highway D bridge means traffic is already slow in those areas.

A June 25 Jimmy Buffett concert at Alpine Valley in the town of Lafayette, which will draw an estimated 30,000 fans, could bring slow traffic to a crawl, the Sheriff's Office warns.

The interstate leading to and from the concert venue will be down to one lane in several locations on the interstate.

Local residents and Walworth County visitors who are not attending this concert are strongly encouraged to stay off the interstate and use alternate routes. The Highway D bridge West of Alpine Valley is completely closed to traffic this weekend. Those coming from the east on Highway D will not be affected by this closure.

Concert attendees should expect significant traffic delays driving to and from the concert.

Concert-goers are urged to give themselves extra time driving to and from Alpine Valley. Drivers are also warned to Stay alert for rapidly changing traffic patterns and vehicles slowing or stopping.

Patience and courtesy is appreciated by the Sheriff's Office.

Walworth County Sheriff's deputies and troopers from Wisconsin State Patrol will be monitoring traffic patterns and enforcing all laws related to road construction.
