Elkhorn — A 33-year-old Milwaukee man, who robbed the Hooch Hut Liquor Store in Delavan, will spend the next eight years in prison.

Randy W. Fitzgerald also was sentenced to 10 years of extended supervision after he pleaded guilty July 28 to armed robbery with threat of force.

According to the criminal complaint:

On April 8, police responded to the Hooch Hut Liquor Store in the city of Delavan for a report of an armed robbery.

When police arrived, they spoke to a customer who stated when he was walking into the liquor store a man with a gun was running out.

The customer witnessed the armed man drop some money when he was attempting to stuff zip ties and the weapon's magazine into his pocket.

A description of the suspect and getaway vehicle was provided to police.

The owner of the Hooch Hut told police a robber entered, pointed a gun and demanded money be placed into a bank bag. The owner placed about $500 into the bank bag and the robber left.

Witnesses gave police a description of the suspect and his vehicle.

A vehicle matching the description was located near the Hooch Hut.

Police found the vehicle unoccupied and searched it. During the search, police found Fitzgerald's mail and black gloves, which matched witness accounts of what the armed-robbery suspect was wearing.

A woman, who identified herself to police as Fitzgerald's girlfriend, said she was worried about Fitzgerald because she didn't hear from him during the weekend, with the exception of one phone call.

After further questioning, the woman said Fitzgerald told her he had robbed a liquor store with a fake gun.
