WILLIAMS BAY - The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has scheduled a public information meeting to discuss the future resurfacing of Highway 67 from Williams Bay to Elkhorn.
The purpose of the meeting, which is set for Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Williams Bay Junior/Senior High School, 500 Geneva St., is to provide information on the proposed inprovements and obtain input that will assist the department in developing and refining proposed improvements.
Wisconsin DOT representatives will be available to discuss the proposed project and address any questions or concerns. A brief presentation will be given at 6 p.m. with an open house format before and after.
The proposed project will resurface Highway 67 from 1,000 feet north of Highway 50 to Commerce Drive. The work will address turning movement needs, deteriorating pavement, beam guard placement and provide for acceptabloe operations in to the future, according to the DOT press release.
The existing number of lanes will not change. To accommodate future traffic on Highway 67 at each of the side road intersections, right turn lanes are proposed.
The real work needed on 67 is a signal at Geneva Street and resurfacing all through Williams Bay in addition to the work proposed here. As the hospital at 50/67 comes to fruition traffic will just get heavier thus more wear and tear on the road. Let's hope they think this through.....for they certainly did not think with the current mess on Geneva Street resurfacing.
Where will the money come from? Higher taxes? I don't think so! The previous state administration headed by Doyle WASTED too much money on frivolous projects (see the new rest stations that look like luxury hotels?). There is NO money for anything else. Period! Quit your complaining, Plus, Stan Fairchild of Fairchild Residential stole so much money from so many people in the county that no one can afford higher taxes to pay for fancy new roads. If you want new roads, move to MO
Why are we talking about resurfacing all these roads when Hwy 50 west of Lake Geneva needs to be REBUILT? Talk about washboard pavement! Mercy Hospital got their new traffic lights, Geneva National got their fancy divided highway and dedicated turn lanes (not to mention clear-cutting trees and a lower speed limit- for what? It's still two lanes!)...so why is the worst stretch of pavement in the county being ignored?
