October 17, 2011 | 09:21 AMTOWN OF LAFAYETTE — A 25-year-old Wausau man was killed Oct. 16 when the vehicle he was a passenger in crossed the center line and was struck by semi-truck on Highway 11.
The Walworth County Corner's Office pronounced Matthew Bowden Kehl dead at the scene.
Kehl was a passenger in a 1996 Buick Regal which was being driven by Sophie M. Nelson, 21, of Kenosha.
Nelson was driving the vehicle west on Highway 11 near Plank Road when she crossed the center line and struck as semi-truck, which was traveling east, according to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff's Department.
The semi was unable to avoid striking the Buick, which received severe damage to its passenger side.
Nelson was transported Flight for Life from the crash scene, but her status is unknown. Both Nelson and Kehl were wearing seatbelts.
The semi-truck driver, John M. Seybert, 50, of Bristol, was not injured in the crash. He was driving for Mighty Grand Dairy, LLC, out of Union Grove.
The case is open and under investigation, according to the press release.
