There are so many women's consignment and resale shops around the area, Sherry Kirschlager thought that menswear was the missing link.

"It has always been my dream to open up my own store. One day, I was driving through Walworth around the square and I saw a "For Rent" sign at 201 N. Main St.," she said.

"I must have driven around four times, before I stopped and wrote down the contact number.

"I immediately knew what type of store I would open there. 'Quality Menswear and Home Furnishings — a Consignment Resale Shop' I thought."

Sherry's friend, Sandy Kesy Lenz, owner of Sandy's Upscale Consignment, used to be in the space, until she purchased a building across the street years ago.

"She sells women's clothing and accessories," Sherry said. "I thought, 'What a perfect match!" I ran the idea by Sandy, and she was thrilled thinking of us as neighbors.

"My store would be Sherry's Dockside, since that is the name I have held for many years, since the time I almost purchased Dockside Swim & Surf," in Lake Geneva," she said.

She added the furniture and home decor so that she would have something for everyone.

"Also, I couldn't resist adding a dogwear section, since I have a pile of clothes at home that my dog has outgrown.

"I believe in giving to our local charities, but sometimes there are things that we spent a lot of money on that we hang on to and don't use," she said.

Sherry believes that getting some money for the items makes people feel better, the same way that giving things to a charity does.

"The concept of 'what's old is new again' is fun, and environmentally correct. I'm excited for my customers to be able to find quality merchandise for less," Sherry said.

Sherry's Dockside's grand opening is slated for Saturday, March 10, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 201 N. Main St., Walworth.

Business hours will be Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
