A new kind of outdoor dining at Bistro 220

Bistro 220 owner Ken Wenz takes a moment to enjoy the restaurant’s patio.

Outdoor dining abounds in Lake Geneva these days, but Bistro 220 has a different twist on it.

Besides the second floor balcony seating which they've had for a few years, they recently added an outdoor patio area on their south side and lower front porch.

It's not on the sidewalk like the other outdoor dining. It's an actual patio with decorative stone, landscaping, roses, cactus and other foliage. It's more secluded than the other outdoor dining establishments and there's plenty of shade for those hot days we've been having.

There's a general feeling of romance and tranquility. It's a great place for a glass of wine or a Bistro mixed drink, appetizer or a full meal.

The full Bistro 220 menu and drink offerings are available outside as well as in. And, unlike the other outdoor dining establishments, which can only offer drinks until 9, the Bistro's patio stays open until closing time. That's because the Bistro's patio is on the actual property, not on the sidewalk and, therefore, functions under different rules.

The patio addition is the latest enhancement for the former home at 220 Cook Street on the west side of downtown Lake Geneva. Five years ago, Wenz salvaged the dilapidated property and turned the upstairs into a funky restaurant.

Always stocked with fine wines and beers, Wenz also developed an original line of sake martinis and other mixed drinks. The Bistro's Bloody Mary and CranRaspberry Mimosas are advertised as the best in Lake Geneva.

Every Saturday is a prime rib special. There's also a huge selection of fresh seafood available daily.

Bistro 220 is open from 11 a.m. until closing Wednesday through Sunday. For more information, check out their website at www.bistro220.com or call 262-248-4-220.
