Badger basketball bashes Baraboo, Lady 'Dogs win thriller

December 29, 2012 | 12:01 AM

It was a busy day for area hoops, and the Williams Bay girls basketball team made sure fans left its first holiday tournament with a smile.

Down 10 points Friday against Trinity Academy with two and a half minutes to play in regulation, the Bulldogs stormed back. Emmalyn Meyers' three foul shots tied the game and sent it to overtime.

Then, Josie Bauscher's buzzer beater in overtime added another five minutes and clutch free throws helped seal a 56-54 victory.

Williams Bay improved to 3-4 on the season.

Bay coach Mike Coolidge said Lizzy Smith and Molly Perkins both notched key foul shots in the final overtime to seal the deal.

Despite 25 points from Trinity's Sydney Dieck and 21 from Sam Dieck, the Bay countered with Meyers, who led the charge with 21 points.

Bauscher, a 5-foot-10 center, came up big late with eight of her 17 points in the overtimes.

Badger boys 67, Baraboo 58

It's been a Jekyll and Hyde type of season for the Badger boys basketball squad.

One game they click on all cylinders, then the next they struggle to put the ball through the net.

After reaching a low point with a 33-25 loss to Westosha Central, the Badgers have showed more fire, first with a solid effort despite a loss to conference-leading Burlington and now a big victory Friday night.

Playing at home against nonconference foe Baraboo, Rob Slagle scored 15 points and eight Badgers scored in a 67-58 victory.

The 67 points were a season high.

Badger sank a respectable 13-of-20 from the foul line and added six 3-pointers.

The Badgers clung to a 45-40 advantage after three quarters, and Tony Ashley's eight fourth-quarter points helped Badger pull away.

Sophomore Lincoln Wieseman added 11 points, all of which came in the first half.

Badger (3-6 overall) hosts Kenosha Reuther next Friday night.
