The Time is Now to Help
Driehaus matching grant means $60,000

November 10, 2011

A huge thank you to The Richard H. Driehaus Charitable Lead Trust and all who donated to the $30,000 Matching Grant. Due to your generosity we have been able to provide $60,000 in assistance. Every dollar given has been used to alleviate the pain and suffering of poverty stricken fellow Americans living in financial despair.

We have provided below a detailed description of where every penny of the $60,000 was spent. 100 percent of every penny donated to The Time Is Now to Help, was used to help our poverty stricken. Thank you for Caring and Sharing. Together we make our communities a better place to live.

RENT/SHELTER = $15,452

Thanks to your generosity we have prevented many families, senior citizens, single mothers, and children from becoming homeless. We paid overdue rent for several people struggling with disabilities. We helped hard working fellow creations that have lost their jobs. Some were struggling with life threatening illness. Thanks to your caring and sharing, The Time Is Now to Help was able to offer a helping hand to these many people in need.

UTILITIES = $13,634.84 total of: Gas: $6,600; Electricity: $5,550; Water/Sewer: $600.00; Telephone: $884.84

We have assisted many people that have had their electric and gas disconnected or threatened to be shut off. Water and sewer was restored for a senior citizen and a single mother. Imagine living without toilets, showers, or water to do dishes or drink. We had several propane tanks filled for families and senior citizens that were doing without. We reconnected and prevented disconnection of electricity, gas, water, and telephone service for many families, seniors, and handicapped individuals. Thanks to your generosity we have relieved the pain and suffering of living without utilities for many people.

FOOD = $6,396.75

Many families were living in hunger. I came upon many empty cupboards and refrigerators. We provided emergency food assistance to many that had not eaten a good meal in a long time. We helped children, seniors, single parents, and the handicapped fill their cupboards and refrigerators with healthy, life giving food.

When you have to choose between food and shelter or toilet paper, diapers, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, soap, first aid supplies, toothpaste, deodorant, etc., shelter comes first. I find homelessness is most people's number one fear. Yes, toiletries and food are eliminated due to poverty. Many families have to make this decision each month. Together, our compassion has allowed us to share with these poverty stricken families the items necessary for basic hygiene. Mothers and babies were provided with diapers and toiletries. Senior citizens were given toilet paper, soap and shampoo. God Bless all of you for Caring and Sharing.

= $1,570.25

We supplied bedding, towels, laundry detergent, mops, buckets, small appliances, vacuums, etc. for those living without. We provided beds for many people in the last few months and sheets, pillows, and blankets were provided as well.

We provided shoes, clothing, winter coats, etc. for several families. The children had out grown or worn out their shoes. They were also in need of a warm winter coat and boots. The parents were in need of proper work attire. Thank you for caring and sharing for our fellow creations.

The Time Is Now to Help had many cars repaired by Mike's Auto Repair to enable the owners to keep their jobs and drive to work, doctors appointments, etc. We paid some overdue car payments so people would not lose their cars. We provided people with gas cards so they have the fuel necessary to drive their cars to work or job interviews. We registered three donated cars for those that were struggling without transportation. Thank you for your Caring and Sharing.

BEDS = $7,287

It's amazing how many people were living without the most basic comfort of a bed. Over 20 mattresses were provided by Verlo Mattress Factory. Happy tears of thankfulness were shed by children, seniors, parents, and the handicapped when they went to sleep in a real bed for the first time in years.

APPLIANCES = $955.14

A refrigerator and a water heater was supplied for a senior couple that was living without both essential appliances. This matching grant enabled us to provide these items that are often over looked. The recipients never even requested this assistance. I noticed they were living without a refrigerator and water heater when I paid a visit. Thank you for helping to provide these essential items to our senior neighbors.

A struggling single mother was unable to provide glasses for her children. The children were struggling in school due to their inability to see clearly. This single mother could barely afford to put food on the table, much less glasses on their faces. An education is essential for their future success in this world and being able to see clearly is most important for these children. They were so grateful when they were given the gift of clear vision.

A furnace was provided for a disabled senior couple. Winter is fast approaching and they are very happy to have warmth in their small home. We also provided a table and chairs for a senior citizen living with hardly any furniture. The remaining furniture she did have was used way beyond its years and damaged due to water damage.

Grand Total: $60,000

As you can see every penny you donated, along with Richard Driehaus' matching funds, went to assist the poverty stricken. The funds were used to help the poverty stricken with the daily necessities of life: food, clothing, utilities (gas, electric, telephone, & water), shelter, toiletries, household necessities, transportation, home repairs, furniture, eyeglasses, and appliances. All deliveries and installations were done by volunteers. Some of the recipients of this assistance were gracious enough to allow us into their homes, trailers, and apartments to be filmed for the upcoming CNN Heroes event. This week I was accompanied by The Black Eyed Peas front man as he observed our charity first hand.

I will share that amazing visit with you in next week's column. CNN filmed him and I working together to ease the pains of poverty. While's philanthropy is on a global scale our shared views of caring for our fellow creations brought us together to fight the war on poverty. When the film is released you will see how your donation was put to work immediately to help ease the pains of poverty.

Many hours were, and continue to be spent fighting poverty. We investigate every request to make sure every penny we give goes to good people in genuine need. The need continues to rise for many of our fellow American's struggling without work, seniors trying to get by on social security, the handicapped trying to survive on a shrinking disability. Together, we will continue the war against poverty here in America.

Don't forget to vote for Sal for CNN Hero 2011 at . You can vote up to 10 times a day per e-mail address and facebook account until Dec. 7, at . I thank all of you for your votes and words of encouragement.

Please take advantage of the "Fall Summertime Foundation $10,000 Matching Grant." Every dollar you donate will be matched by another. We have many fellow Americans suffering. We need to ease the pains of poverty, hunger, darkness, cold, and homelessness. Thank you for Caring and Sharing.

Health and Happiness, God Bless Everyone, WC/Sal
