Fire destroys condominiums

FONTANA — Fire departments from throughout the area responded to a structure fire early Wednesday morning at a four-unit condominium in Abbey Hills.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Fontana Fire Department was dispatched to 850 Hillside Drive, and the first emergency responders observed the condominium was engulfed in flames and smoke was coming through the roof.

After arriving at the building, emergency responders called for mutual aid from the cities of Delavan, Elkhorn and Lake Geneva, the villages of Walworth, Williams Bay, Sharon and the towns of Linn and Delavan. The Bloomfield Genoa City Fire Department, the Racine Fire Bells and departments from Harvard, Hebron and Richmond, Ill., also responded.

Emergency responders had the fire under control by 4:30 a.m. and crews remained on the scene until 10:45 a.m.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The building, which is being considered a total loss, had an estimated value of $745,033. According to officials, only one unit was used as a full-time residence.
