Baby sitter allegedly gives pot to 9-year-old

April 19, 2012

WHITEWATER — A 9-year-old girl reported to police that her baby sitter taught her how to smoke marijuana.

Ashley N. Dollahite, 21, of Janesville, faces a felony charge of delivering marijuana to a minor.

If convicted, she faces up to 8-1/2 years imprisonment and $10,000 in fines.

The maximum penalty for delivering marijuana is normally 3-1/2 years imprisonment.

However, in this case, the maximum term of imprisonment is increased by five years because the drug was allegedly delivered to someone under the age of 17, by someone who was at least three years older than the victim.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Aug. 30, police spoke to the 9-year-old girl, who said Dollahite showed her how to smoke marijuana out of a pipe.

The girl said Dollahite held the pipe to her mouth, lit the marijuana and told the girl to breathe in and hold it.

The 9-year-old said she smoked marijuana twice and it made her feel weird and dizzy. When a Whitewater detective spoke to Dollahite, she admitted to showing the girl how to smoke pot.

She also told police that she lit the marijuana for the girl after explaining to her how to smoke it.
