ELKHORN — In the past three months, the Fontana Police Department arrested a 41-year-old man three times, twice for drunken driving.

Police first arrested Stephan W. Zaring, 126 W. Main St., on Feb. 27 at the village's elementary school after a staff member called stating he appeared intoxicated.

Zaring was arrested again March 25 for allegedly violating his bond condition of having no alcohol. Then on, April 19, Zaring was arrested for allegedly driving drunk.

In Walworth County Court, Zaring has five pending criminal cases. He faces two felony counts of drunken driving, felony bail jumping and two misdemeanor counts of operating while revoked.

If convicted of the three felony counts, Zaring faces up to 18 years imprisonment and $30,000 in fines.

Both fifth offense drunken driving charges carry a minimum sentence of six months imprisonment and $600 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint on his April 19 arrest:

At 6:57 p.m., Zaring's vehicle was stopped on Fontana Boulevard and Lake Street. The arresting officer could smell alcohol on Zaring's breath.

According to the criminal complaint on the bail jumping charge:

On March 25, at 4:18 a.m., police responded to the home on Main Street after receiving a report of a dispute between Zaring and his girlfriend.

The officer observed Zaring sitting on a couch with several beer cans around him. Zaring told the officer he had consumed a couple of beers.

Zaring was brought to the Lakeland Medical Center for a blood draw, and a preliminary breath test came back with a result of 0.131.

According to the criminal complaint and police reports on Zaring's Feb. 27 drunken driving arrest:

The Fontana Police Department made contact with Zaring at Fontana Elementary School. Zaring called Fontana Elementary School to arrange picking up a student, and school officials called police because they believed Zaring sounded intoxicated. When police arrived, Zaring was parked in a fire lane.
