Walk with Walker event Thursday

June 07, 2012

MADISON Lace up your walking shoes and join First Lady Tonette Walker on the Geneva Lake shoreline path June 14 at 9:30 a.m.

The First Lady's "Walk with Walker" event is free and open to the public and provides a unique opportunity for participants to enjoy some time with the first lady herself. The event continues the first lady's initiative to explore the natural, scenic beauty of Wisconsin's parks, trails and landscapes, while promoting health and wellness.

"I look forward to having others join me for a walk on one of Wisconsin's treasured scenic trails, the shoreline path of Geneva Lake," said Mrs. Walker. "This walk should be especially unique, because we'll have the opportunity to enjoy and experience the area from both land and water!"

The 21-mile shoreline path offers beautiful views of both Geneva Lake and the historic mansions and estates that surround the lake. The Walk with Walker event will explore approximately a 2.5-mile portion of the trail beginning at Library Park, returning to the starting point via boat, courtesy of Gage Marine and the Lake Geneva Cruise Line.

"From the Native Americans who first created the original footpath around the Geneva Lake to the turn-of-the-century Chicago barons that followed and built homes here, there is incredible history surrounding the lake," said Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett who will join Walker in Lake Geneva. "The public shoreline path allows visitors access to the tremendous beauty that has drawn people to this area for centuries."

The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Library Park, in Lake Geneva, located at 1200 W Main St, Lake Geneva, WI 1200 W Main St, Lake Geneva, WI 1200 W Main St, Lake Geneva, WI 1200 W Main St, Lake Geneva, WI 1200 W Main St, Lake Geneva, WI1200 West Main Street.
