Police searching for man linked to assault

September 27, 2012

ELKHORN — Police in two states are searching for a 45-year-old Harvard, Ill., man who allegedly assaulted his estranged wife in Illinois and left her in a vehicle across the state border in the village of Walworth.

Jose Enriquez-Hernandez, 506 E. Blackman St., has an active warrant from the Harvard, Ill., police department for two counts of aggravated domestic battery and two counts of kidnapping.

On Oct. 1, at 12:24 a.m., police in the village of Walworth responded to a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway on Williams Street. An injured 39-year-old Harvard woman was found in the vehicle, and was transported to a hospital.

Harvard Police Chief Dan Kazy-Garey said the investigation is ongoing, but there doesn't appear to be a connection to the couple and the home in Walworth.

During the investigation, which was completed by the Walworth and Harvard police departments and the Walworth County Sheriff's Department, police learned the woman had been in the company of her estranged husband, Enriquez.

The woman reported to police that she was physically assaulted at a residence in Harvard. During the assault she sustained injuries to her head and face. She was then driven to Walworth by Enriquez where she was discovered alone in the vehicle.

Kazy-Garey said he couldn't comment on the extent of the injuries the woman suffered. He said the Harvard Police Department has had prior contact with Enriquez.

Hernandez may be in possession of a knife and should be considered armed and dangerous. Kazy-Garey said police believe the man may be armed and dangerous based on the victim's statements.

The Harvard Police Department is asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Hernandez to call the Harvard Police Department at (815) 943-4431, or the Walworth County Sheriff's Office at (262) 741-4400, or 911.
