Arlene S. Ridell, 89, Lake Geneva, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at her residence. Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20, at Christ Church UCC, Des Plaines, Ill., with the Rev. Virginia Ericson officiating. Steinke Funeral Home, Lake Geneva, assisted the familiy with arrangements.

1952: Presidential candidate Dwight D. Eisenhower announces that if elected, he will go to Korea. In 1950, as U.S. Marines tried to fight their way out of a Chinese trap, Korea suffered its worst winter of the century. The men who struggled there suffered accordingly.
