Whitewater mom allegedly didn't protect child from assault

ELKHORN — A Whitewater mother who allegedly failed to protect her daughter from being sexually assaulted by her roommate faces criminal charges in Walworth County Circuit Court. Tara L. Laumann, 34, 228 E. Main St., faces a felony charge of failure to protect a child, which carries a maximum penalty of 12-1/2 years imprisonment and $25,000 in fines. She also faces four misdemeanor counts of child neglect, one for each of the children who lived in her home, which, according to the criminal complaint, had maggots inside the refrigerator. The misdemeanor counts carry a maximum penalty of nine months in jail and $10,000 in fines.

Man who was shot faces drug charges

ELKHORN — A Bloomfield Township man who was shot in the back while allegedly attempting to buy pot in the town of Walworth faces criminal charges. Eric B. Grethe, N1467 White Pigeon Road, has been charged with attempting to possess marijuana with intent to deliver, second and subsequent offense. If convicted, he faces up to 7-1/2 years imprisonment and $5,000 in fines.

Illegal immigrant faces bail jumping charges

An illegal immigrant who was deported after he was convicted in 2002 of sexual assault, now faces two felony charges for failing to maintain the sex offender registry. Fidel Torres, whose address is listed in court documents as 1004 Center St., Lake Geneva, has been charged with failure to maintain the sex offender registry and violating the sex offender registry. If convicted of both counts, he faces up to 12 years imprisonment and $20,000 in fines.
