Lake Geneva man pleads in attempted homicide case

ELKHORN — After attempting to kill a man by stabbing him and setting his apartment building on fire, a 33-year-old Lake Geneva man will be under the care of the Department of Health and Human Services for the next 60 years. However, how the department will oversee him will be determined by a judge at a Feb. 23 hearing. On Jan. 25, Damen E. Leroy pleaded not guilty to first-degree attempted homicide by reason of mental disease or defect. Walworth County Circuit Court Judge John Race accepted Leroy's plea. Leroy, who lists a Mobile Street address in online court records, is free from custody as he awaits the hearing.

In separate cases, two men allegedly kill dogs

ELKHORN — In two separate incidents, the Walworth County District Attorney's Office has filed felony charges against two men, who allegedly shot and killed dogs, one of whom allegedly stuffed the animal's body in a freezer. Jeffery A. Borre, 38, of Whitewater, faces felony charges of mistreatment of animals and bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of intentionally killing a dog. If convicted of all counts, Borre faces nine years and eight months imprisonment and $25,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint, Borre shot a Rottweiler in its head, put the animal in a garbage bag and put it in a freezer.

Woman must complete community service

January 26, 2012
ELKHORN — A woman who stole from the Delavan-Darien FFA Alumni Fund must complete 80 hours of community service. Joyce C. Becker, 129 Sharon St., Sharon, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of theft from a business setting. On Jan. 19, Judge John Race also sentenced her to 18 months of probation.

Man receives three years for seventh drunken driving offense

January 26, 2012
A Lake Como man was sentenced to three years in state prison Jan. 18 after he pleaded guilty to his seventh drunken driving offense. Kent L. Halladay, N3090 Robin Road No. 7, also will serve five years of extended supervision and must pay a $600 fine. According to the criminal complaint:

Jury convicts man of sexual assault

January 26, 2012
A 29-year-old Lake Geneva man was found guilty by a Walworth County Jury Jan. 24 after he sexually assaulted two young girls, ages 8 and 10. Tyrone L. Lipson, 250 Country Club Drive, has been convicted of repeated sexual assault of a child and first-degree sexual assault by having sexual contact with a child under 13. When he is sentenced March 16 he faces up to 120 years imprisonment.
