May 03, 2012I grew up two blocks from Lake Michigan and thought everyone had a Great Lake in their front yard.
Now I live about the same distance from Geneva Lake. So six decades later I have another great lake at my doorstep.
There's something about such a large body of water that speaks to me in languages that only the soul understands. |

An editorial should be about important national topics such as our more than $14 trillion national debt, increasing health care costs and the use of politics by some to make excuses or try to explain why an insane man shot people at an Arizona grocery store.
An editorial typically should be an opinion about a local issue such as the rescue and fire services disagreement between Geneva Township and the Lake Geneva Fire Department or whether the Walworth County District Attorney's Office should have filed charges against Lake Geneva city staff for mismanagement. |
Recent Editorial Why I decided to become editorApril 26, 2012For years I told people I never wanted to go to another parade because I’d covered so many.For 20 years after college, I covered parades or their equivalent — city happenings, kids at school, politics, police and courts, even sports. I was a reporter at a daily, editor of a weekly and a daily and a columnist and associate editor of the Janesville Gazette.When I was promoted to general manager at a different newspaper 20 years ago, I pretty much left that life behind. Main Street traffic improvements must be doneMarch 01, 2012Sometimes there are difficult choices local government officials must make. There are always two sides to an issue. There’s taxpayer money involved and seemingly always the way of life and future of the municipality at stake.One upcoming decision the Lake Geneva City Council will make is whether to install state-of-the-art traffic signals on Main Street at the intersections of Center and Broad streets. While a good percentage of most decisions are tough, this one is a no-brainer. I don’t believe there is a choice in this matter. Just like the need for the Edwards Boulevard extension to Sheridan Springs Road, this is a need in the community that can’t fall by the wayside.

It’s our first single copy increase in eight years. Some newspapers cost more; some cost less. (And you can still pay less for the Regional News if you take out a subscription.)
