The Time is Now to Help

$40,000 matching grant met

August 04, 2011
Thank you to everyone that wrote letters, emailed, encouraged, liked on Facebook, and donated to The Time Is Now to Help. Your response to the CNN Heroes story has been overwhelming. I never expected such an outpouring of compassion and love for what we do. Together we ease the pains of poverty for our fellow creations. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I wanted to share one of the emails I received this past week. Dan Gray from Canada was inspired to write the following poem after watching our story on CNN: Your Helping Hands

The Time is Now to Help

A deserving family in need

January 20, 2011
Dear W.C., I know a family that is having a very hard time. I know they are late on their rent. They have two young children. The father lost his job last summer. The mother was hit by a hit-and-run driver and was left handicapped. They do not receive enough assistance from disability and unemployment. Due to all the medical bills and threats from the bill collectors they have been left broke. I have known this family for many years and know they are good people. They have always lived frugally and have a devout belief in God. They do not have gas for their car. I have offered to drive them on several occasions but they have declined. I think they are too embarrassed to accept any help. They have even declined my requests to visit due to their embarrassment of not being able to afford heat. I do not know how they are feeding everyone and keeping a roof over their heads. Please help this deserving family.

I am not a hero
July 28, 2011
Several weeks ago we were contacted by CNN. They told us we had been nominated to be a CNN Hero. After several telephone interviews and a thorough investigation by CNN they informed me they wanted to meet me. I was very apprehensive. I ignored their phone calls and emails for days. When I finally returned their call I told them I was not a hero. Our fellow creation that are surviving the pains of poverty and our fellow Americans who donate to The Time Is Now To Help, making our mission possible, are the true heroes. I was told CNN would bring more recognition to the strife of poverty and this will in turn help more Americans that suffer daily in poverty. I agreed to meet. Within a week a Kathleen Toner, a CNN reporter and Chris, a CNN camera man arrived from New York to film The Time Is Now To Help at work.

Elderly mother in need
July 21, 2011
Dear WC,I was wondering if you could help my elderly mother. She lives in Wisconsin and I am very worried about her. I am a single mom and I live out of state. I must stay here for my job. I do not have the money to visit or move my mother closer to us. I have the space for her if she would be willing to move in. I have tried to get her to move in with us but she always tells me, No, I will not be a burden, you have it hard enough.I have not been to see my mother since my father passed away a few years ago. I used to telephone her every week but the last time I talked to her she said she was having her phone disconnected. She said she could not pay the bill. She also said she was having some health troubles but did not want to worry me. I am very worried and do not have any family or friends to check on her. I found your organization online and was hoping you could help my mother.

Family struck by cancer
July 14, 2011
Dear W.C., Could you please help my family? We are having a real hard time. Last night we had very little food to share. My Dad has cancer. It is hard to watch him try to stay strong for me when he is so sick and in so much pain. He keeps telling me to not worry about him and things will get better soon. I overheard my parents talking last night and my Mom was crying. They were talking about what my Mom should do when he is gone. How can they talk about that? I dont know where else to turn for help. A troubled life after abuse
July 07, 2011
Dear W.C.,I am writing to see if you can help my granddaughter. She and her two children moved in with me several months ago after living out of state with her husband. Her husband was in the military and was seriously injured. He has permanent disabilities and had become abusive. He is angry at the world and she begged him to get help. When he became physically abusive and began to beat her, she knew it was time to leave. He does not want to even see his children. He does not pay any child support. My granddaughter is having such a hard time. She feels sorry for her ex-husband and knows the rest of his life will be a struggle. She has a big heart and life has not been easy for her. Could you please contact me to speak about this further?A Worried Grandmother

Caring for a special grandson

Thank you to everyone who has been contributing to our Lake Geneva Area Realty $40,000 Matching Grant. We are now half way to our goal with donations totaling over $20,000. Thank you for your caring and sharing to help our poverty stricken neighbors. Your support has allowed us to assist thirteen people with utilities to enable them to cook, have lights, run refrigerators and appliances, and allowed seniors and those with health problems to use both heat and air-conditioning. Your support has helped sixteen people to pay their rent and provided emergency shelter for a family at a local motel. We have also been able to provide food, household necessities, and toiletries for families and senior citizens. We have many people still waiting for assistance and look forward to being able to offer them the same helping hand as we progress with this matching grant. When we complete this matching grant we will have been able to relieve the pain and suffering for many of our fellow creations. Thank you for helping. God Bless you.

Family has new lease on life
June 23, 2011
Dear W.C.,I am struggling to pay my rent and utilities. My husband died last year. It has been hard for us ever since. He was only 48 years old and had a heart attack. We really need help moving out of the house we are renting and into a more affordable apartment. I am working full-time but cannot keep up with the expenses. Can you please help us?

Coworker in need of desperate help
June 16, 2011
Dear W.C.,I am writing to ask for help for a coworker. She is a hard working woman in her late 50s. She waitresses five days a week and I know it is hard on her. She has had two operations and I see her in pain at times, yet she never complains. I have noticed her coming to work early to do her personal grooming. She tries to sneak in unnoticed and seems very embarrassed about it. Her only child died fifteen years ago in a car accident and she cares for her elderly mother. I know she is a truly good person and is really struggling to make ends meet. Her car is falling apart and there have been times I offered her a ride home due to it not starting. I do not know how she gets around when I am not there. Please help.

Eight years of caring, sharing
June 09, 2011
This column marks our eighth year of sharing our work with you, our readers, through a weekly newspaper column. We have covered many aspects of poverty, disability, illness, child abuse and neglect, spousal abuse, addiction, job loss, tragedy, etc. We have together cried with despair over the many problems that affect our society and economy. We have held the hands of senior citizens that no longer feel needed or treasured. We have offered assistance to many struggling parents and grandparents trying to raise children in a safe and healthy environment. We have shared with our handicapped neighbors the most basic needs to make their lives somewhat easier and accessible. There are many more fellow creations than you read about each week that The Time Is Now To Help has assisted. For each letter you read in the newspaper, there are approximately 10 more families, children, single parents, senior citizens, or disabled, we have helped due to your generous contributions to our cause. We are blessed to have caring and sharing individuals that offer a helping hand to our fellow Americans in desperate need. Thank you for your continued support of our mission to remove the pain and suffering of our fellow creations.

Lending a helping hand
June 02, 2011
Dear W.C.,Im writing you in behalf of an elderly woman who goes to our church. A neighbor of hers told us she needed help but could not help her. When I saw the elderly widow at church I asked her if she would mind talking to me. Church was about to start so I told her I would meet her afterwards. When we met I asked her if she needed any help. She looked at me puzzled and said no. I told her I was just trying to help. She just looked embarrassed, shook her head no, and walked away. When I caught up to her I noticed she was crying. She would not stop walking away and kept saying, No I am fine. Could you please check on her?Concerned Pastor

$40,000 matching grant helping
May 26, 2011
Several months ago I started receiving many new requests for assistance due to the same circumstances, the closure of Lake Lawn Resort. After 133 years, Lake Lawn Resort had closed and several hundred fellow creations lost their jobs. Due to the fact many of these jobs were low-paying, and the balance moderate paying, these families and individuals were surviving from paycheck to paycheck. Our fellow Americans found themselves cutting back on food, lowering their thermostat and struggling with their rent. Many could not make car payments, pay for medical care and prescriptions, or buy everyday necessities for their children. With our beloved country in a recession, many of our government assistance programs have extensive waiting lists. Due to the intense fear of becoming homeless, our desperate neighbors reached out to us through The Time Is Now To Help. I prayed over the numerous requests for help from the recession, and the closing of Lake Lawn. In my heart I knew Lake Lawn had to reopen. This was a monumental task, especially in a recession, so as I always do I turned to God.After praying for some time in the midst of a dark, snowy January evening, in walked Jim Drescher. I hadnt seen Jim for several weeks. Jim and his wife Ardith and numerous God loving volunteers had been busy with their WC Family Resource Center, feeding over 1,300 people a month. Surprised to see Jim walking in out of the snow I jumped up and hugged him. I told Jim about how the closure of Lake Lawn Resort, along with the ongoing recession, was adding to the desperate pains of poverty. Jim said, We are going to have to reopen Lake Lawn. Thinking of all our fellow creations that desperately needed help, I started to tear up. Knowing God was listening to this tall request from Jim, I knew at that moment God sent Jim to accomplish such a grand task.
