Time is Now helps single mother

March 08, 2012
Dear W.C., I am a single mother with two children. I had a job until several months ago when my job was lost due to the poor economy. My boss could no longer afford several employees and had to let us go. My kids and I have always just got by with our expenses. My unemployment does not cover our rent, utilities, food, car payment, and health care. One of my children had a hospital visit this year due to a needed surgery. I cannot make these medical bill payments on top of all the other expenses. Can you please give me some advice on how we can keep a roof over our head and still be able to eat?

A deserving family in need

January 20, 2011
Dear W.C., I know a family that is having a very hard time. I know they are late on their rent. They have two young children. The father lost his job last summer. The mother was hit by a hit-and-run driver and was left handicapped. They do not receive enough assistance from disability and unemployment. Due to all the medical bills and threats from the bill collectors they have been left broke. I have known this family for many years and know they are good people. They have always lived frugally and have a devout belief in God. They do not have gas for their car. I have offered to drive them on several occasions but they have declined. I think they are too embarrassed to accept any help. They have even declined my requests to visit due to their embarrassment of not being able to afford heat. I do not know how they are feeding everyone and keeping a roof over their heads. Please help this deserving family.

A grandmother in need
March 01, 2012
Dear W.C.,Several months ago I took in my two grandchildren. My daughter was raising her children in a terrible environment. I did not know they had been homeless for a few months because they lived out of state. They were going from shelter to shelter each night and my daughter was too proud to tell me. My daughter used to be able to support her children on her own but she told me first her ex-husband stopped paying child support and then she lost her job due to the economy. She tried so hard to find another job and track down the childrens’ father for child support, but neither were found. After they lived in homeless shelters for a few months she called me in desperation. She did not want to burden me with this as she knows I am struggling to survive on my social security. I lived in a one bedroom apartment, but had to move into a larger apartment to take in my grandchildren.
Tragedy strikes woman
February 23, 2012
Dear W.C.,Could you please help me? I am living in a motel and about to be evicted. I have been struggling to live on my own. When my husband died unexpectedly I was not prepared. Whoever is prepared for such a tragedy? We had no savings due to my husband having been out of work before he died. I believe the stress of trying to find a job is what gave him his heart attack. Everything he had been working so hard for his whole life, was lost. He was 58 years old and no one would hire him. We used all our savings and used my part-time job to pay for food and utilities.
Woman struggling, in need
February 16, 2012
Dear W.C.,I heard you help people who are in need. My daughter is in great need of your help. She is caring for her husband who has multiple sclerosis. He used to work in construction and was such a big strong man. Now he is losing the ability to walk and talk. He has had several relapses this past year and now he can no longer work or support his family. My daughter has a job working as a waitress and is struggling to care for her husband, children, and pay all the bills. I help as much as I can but I also must work to support myself and cannot take any more time off. I watch the children and her husband when she works nights. I know they need the income her job provides.
McEssy McDonald’s Day = $27,081
The Time is Now to Help
February 09, 2012
“Thank You” to everyone that participated in the Bill McEssy McDonald’s Day 2011 fundraiser. On Dec. 31, 2011 Bill McEssy donated 100 percent of the gross proceeds from six of his local McDonalds. Lake Geneva, Lake Geneva Wal-Mart, Delavan, Elkhorn, East Troy, and Burlington all participated. In that one day we raised over $25,000 and combined with the proceeds from the Time Is Now To Help donation boxes that were at the same McDonald’s restaurants, we raised a total of $27,081.72. What a great fundraiser this was for our many poverty stricken fellow Americans. Thank you Bill McEssy for your very generous donation to help our fellow creations in desperate need. You are a true blessing to our communities.Thank you again for Caring & Sharing. Together we remove the pain and suffering of this recession for our fellow American’s, making our communities a better place to live.
A labor of love for years
The Time is Now to Help
February 02, 2012
This letter marks our 450th column we’ve shared with all of you. It has been a labor of love and emotions sharing these moments with all of you. It has brought some unexpected media attention this year and an overwhelming amount of requests for assistance as our country has slipped further into a recession. Many people are desperate for help. I never realized how our compassion, our networking, the assistance we all offer through The Time Is Now To Help, would be shared by the world. My hope is that we have inspired many across this great nation of ours, and the world, to open their hearts to helping others, to use their talents and energies to bring about a positive change removing the pains of poverty.I have received thousands of emails, letters ... and yes many who are motivated to start their own God loving charity networking with good people, like we have. God bless all of you for making The Time Is Now To Help a truly recognized charity making big differences in our fellow creations lives.

On the edge of homelessness
January 19, 2012
Dear W.C.,Could you please help my family? We are living in a motel room for the next two weeks and after that we will be homeless. We lost our home to foreclosure after I was injured in a car accident and lost my job. My unemployment did not cover all our expenses and I was denied disability. Everything went downhill fast. I tried to just keep food on the table and the utilities paid so my two children would not do without heat and food. I tried to save our home but I could not make the payments while unemployed and trying to rehabilitate from my injuries. I sold all our belongings just to have enough money to pay for a motel room for a few weeks. The only thing we have left is some clothing and my older car that isn’t worth much.

A family’s loss from cancer
January 12, 2012
Dear W.C., I am very worried about the family next door. They have three beautiful children. The mother has been battling cancer for several years. I spoke to the father several days ago and he confessed to me that his wife only has a few months left to live. He broke down in tears and I didn’t know what to say. Then he told me how they were struggling financially and were about to lose their car. I felt so inadequate but then remembered The Time Is Now To Help and knew there was something I could do to help them. I decided to write this letter on this family’s behalf. They are very deserving good people. I am filled with grief over what these children will have to endure when their mother passes on. I pray for this family every day. Please look in on this family.

Helping 500 in need
December 29, 2011
What an exciting year this has been for The Time Is Now To Help. We have networked good fellow American’s that want to make a difference. We have crossed paths with amazing people, shared in many wonderful events, and been graced with overwhelming appreciation and love. We thank God daily for bringing us these blessings. We also are saddened by the many faces of poverty we have seen this year. Many of their faces stay with me long after I have left their homes. The children with cancer, the senior citizens living without, the forgotten handicapped ... more than 500 different fellow Americans we have given assistance to this year, changing their lives for the better. The best thing to come out of the CNN Heroes experience was the attention we brought to a problem that exists behind closed doors. Where ever you go in our wondrous nation and around the world you will find people living without the most basic needs.
