Police nab suspect without incident

Twin Lakes — Police arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the Aug. 31 armed robbery at First Banking Center in Pell Lake. On Tuesday, Bloomfield Police Chief Steve Cole said about $3,000 believed to have been stolen during the robbery was recovered after Twin Lakes police apprehended Jeremiah J. Ward without incident Saturday, Sept. 4, at about 2:22 a.m. Ward, W1347 Bernice Road, Bloomfield Township, is facing felony charges of armed robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to an online court record.

State will test more samples of Pell Lake water for E.coli

Bloomfield — Fifteen units of E.coli per 100 mL of water. That's how a recent water sample near the north beach of Pell Lake came up when the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene tested for E.coli. According to the lab's website, if the sample is less than 235 per 100 mL, the beach doesn't need advisories or warnings issued.

For about an hour every Monday through Friday, children fill the sidewalks hauling their book bags to and from the public schools in Genoa City.But an attempted child abduction in Hebron, Ill., and a suspicious vehicle complaint in the village prompted the Genoa City Police Department to issue a reminder of how important it is to be wary of strangers.“I don’t want to cause people to panic, but parents should at least know we had an incident that shows some similarities to the one that happened in Illinois,” Genoa City Police Chief Ralph “Homer” Bauman said Tuesday.

Pell Lake — For the second time this summer, a robbery occurred at First Banking Center, N1264 Park Road.But this time, whoever robbed it displayed a black, semi-automatic handgun, according to a statement from the Bloomfield Town Police Department.At about 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, a white man wearing a white vintage hockey-style mask and a black hooded sweatshirt with a light-colored “fox” emblem on its front entered the bank and approached the employees.

Bloomfield — Few people love the Pell Lake beaches more than Rich Olenoski.Recently, he installed signs at the two beaches which state the rules in the hopes people follow them so children can enjoy the rest of the summer in the sand and the sun.But other efforts by Olenoski were behind another beach sign placed Monday — one warning people to swim at their own risk.

Genoa City — The night of Thursday, July 8, is one Joelle Duros likely won’t forget.That night, she was out in Lake Geneva with Ryan Keller, a 24-year-old Genoa City man and good family friend. “I went home and, early Friday morning, my brother called me,” Duros said. “I heard that Ryan was driving home from downtown Lake Geneva late Thursday night and he hit a telephone pole. It was a bad accident. They took him by Flight For Life because he was really bad, in critical condition. Actually, we weren’t sure if he was going to make it.”

Bloomfield — A couple of years ago, the town residents who wanted to turn part of their community into a village started big. Their pie-in-the-sky dream was to turn 21 square miles northeast of Highway H into a village. Then, officials from the state Department of Administration suggested they whittle down that plan. So, incorporation proponents took out about 3 square miles.

Genoa City — Some village officials thought it would be a way to cut taxes.They thought closing part of Genoa City’s Tax Incremental Financing district early would cut the village tax rate by more than $1.But on Thursday, July 8, those officials apparently changed their minds after realizing there wouldn’t be much relief. What little would occur wouldn’t happen until a few years from now.

Pell Lake — For a child, summertime spent at the beach is like wintertime on the ski hill.But as the towels are unfurled and the suntan lotion is massaged into the skin, the town of Bloomfield’s beach ordinance isn’t being followed at the Pell Lake Beach.That’s a problem for Rich Olenoski, of the Pell Lake Property Owners Association and the Pell Lake Sportsmen‘s Club.
