Who Cares? June 19, 2013 | 10:29 PM
Mike,
Your readers don't care about this team. I would rather read about the Legion baseball teams or 13 & 14 year old traveling teams in the area then some semi pro football team. I appreciate that you're trying to create some interest in the Generals by covering them the last few seasons, but honestly you must know no one cares.

The real truth June 19, 2013 | 09:37 PM
To some degree I understand where certain players left... However even though a few left for playing time, as a former player, I left for good reason. To say that some couldn't dedicate themselves to the team is a very bold lie. I dedicated myself to the generals and was present every practice leaving my family hanging in the cloud behind me. I was at almost every event and was proud to be a general that gave back to my community. I played my heart and soul out every night regardless of playing time. There was much disrespect from the coaching position and from others surrounding the team that have me my reason to leave. When the team is announced as folding and we all showed our support by attending a meeting yet again on our little free time, we received a guilt trip, and we all felt obligated to do everything we could to pick up and help out. As I congratulate the owners for their valiant effort and commitment, I can't help but wonder how the financial situation caused the team to fold, yet a business was purchased for nearly the same amount as the underlying financial struggle. Best of luck with your business, however I don't feel that my team fees were going to be put to good use on new lighting for a bowling alley. Very frustrated with this feeble attempt to hide true colors.

Taxes & Carriages June 19, 2013 | 08:45 PM
The taxes are high enough for both residents and tourist alike. You have a room tax but spend little on promoting tourism like you should. What d o you do with the room tax? I've been asking that question since 1986. Thank you for voting to keep Maddie and the other horses in Lake Geneva. Sturge, wake up the horse do NOT ride in the 700 or 800 block of Main St.and NEVER HAVE. Build a parking garage behind the museum building. Drive to Oak Park, Ill to see how to do that in architecturally significant way. The parking lot there looks like a famous F. L. Wright building. We have enough trashy looking buildings in town. Look at the grain elevator called the Geneva Towers and tell me how that was approved? Did somebody pat someone on the shoulder for approval. Start maintaining the trees before you loose the Tree City designation. The huge trees on the parkways need to be trimmed so more of them do not fall down because they are rotten. I could write a book about all this. Those who would read the book may have given up on improving the area because it is the others who would not read the book that are busy voting tax increases and spending money. move to D. C. where they make more money than they spend.

I liked him the first time I ever met him which was yrs ago.He was sweet and charming. He was so much fun to hang out with and i will cherish the memories n few pictures I have of him. I'm going to miss him and his amazing smile. My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time.

So Sad when the owners try and hide the truth. June 19, 2013 | 04:34 PM
As i have been a Generals fan/parent of the team i hear rumors of why players left from reliable sources. Trevor is a "Hometown"player so why should Mike not cover it. Whether its "his" boy it dont matter,he has a job to do and he did it. He was a team leader and they cut him? Just doesnt seem right. I heard what he was cut for and i do get why but they should have levels of disapline instead of just letting him go. He didnt get caught by the law, he was told on by another one of his teammates. So not right. As far as some of the other player that left they left cause they didnt have faith in the owners and team anymore. I mean you say you dont have the money for the team,So you fold,THEN unfold 3 days later cause they have the money,Then buy a bowling alley? Does that make ANY sense? And when the bowling alley take presidence over the team,(team scrimmage where the team owner leaves and leaves the team with only defensive coaches to run the scrimmage) players see that! I think Derek is getting wore out by all he has on his plate. Bowling alley,Job,Semi Pro owner and Head Coach of High School. I wish the Generals luck this season but i think after this season there will be no more Generals from Lake Geneva. After the first 4 or 5 games the players will leave and then they will fold.

It must be really tough to not be able to find a spot to place your second boat. I will kept up all night by the thought of someone having to spend so much on legal fees so that they can put their second boat in a shore station. Life is really tough sometimes.

Mike......while i greatly appreciate you covering the generals.....im a bit disappointed with your story. You said you wanted to write about "the truth".....yet you tell me you have to weite about trevor because "hes your boy since he was in high school". It seems as though you tried to find everything negative to write about....but i guess that is our media today. Off the top of my head.....some returning players....dkh, jones....nash....sims....johnson....figueroa....yunker...shaban....jaster.....jauckee....ant scott....ben todd.... roster is much bigger than 40. I said we had over 4040 guys at practice which is more than most of the other 20; teams in the league get at their practice. I have always owned businesses the last eleven years while owning football teams. If anything my businesses have helped support my football teams. our team had a full practice only a week prior to our first game.....and is coming together quickly. i jumped through hoops to get your interview done....and now i know why some people dont get back to you when you call. No news is better than bad news.....so if all you have to report is negative....im not interested in a story. and i never said trevor is welcome back any time....that might be you hoping to get "your boy" back. hoping for more ubiased.....truthful coverage next time... jen

mental health care in wisconsin June 19, 2013 | 12:01 PM
for those readers who lack understanding about how families can FAIL in their attempts to get help for mentally ill relatives, please read this series of articles. here you will find the greater problems behind mental illness care in our state and you can learn about the lack of consistency of support services for families who are trying to help loved ones. hopefully you will find some insight into why these tragic events are taking place. we need be providing support and specific training to law enforcement as well as improving care plans for mental health patients. families are doing their best in the cycle of arrests, involuntary holds, inpatient care and release, but real progress requires educating all those in contact with mental health patients. a family without these supports will undoubtedly fail as their loved one makes decisions clouded by mental instability.

not the person i remember June 19, 2013 | 07:40 AM
I remember Jeremiah B. Krubert he was friends with a family member of mine I always remembered him being a happy person then again back when I knew him he didn't appear to be troubled I did ask about this and was told indeed his family has tried to help him with his mental health it just isn't an excuse now my question is this if he exited the vehicle with an edged weapon why wasn't a tazer gun used? to immobilize him I'm just wondering and if there wasn't time to use a tazer why wasn't the appropriate distance taken between the officer and the vehicle the subject then exited? my point is if the officer knew the vehicle had an occupant in it then the officer should have made distance between the 2 of them until the subject exited the vehicle so that the situation could be better assessed apon the subjects exiting of the vehicle. if this would have been done then maybe the situation would have had a different outcome.

"THE FAMILY HAD TRIED OVER AND OVER TO GET HIM HELP." June 17, 2013 | 09:53 PM
S.P you commented that "THE FAMILY HAD TRIED OVER AND OVER TO GET HIM HELP." What happened and why couldn't they? If he had such conditions the family could have found someone to help them. I don't buy that excuse. In the article it says "Jeremiah Krubert attempted to leave the scene in Boyd's truck, but when a deputy found him, Krubert exited the vehicle and confronted the deputy with an "edged weapon." The deputy fired at Jeremiah Krubert several times, but Krubert somehow managed to steal the deputy's squad car and proceeded south on Highway O toward Millard, according to the press release." Some of the comments here said why deadly force. Well read the article and it says "Jeremiah Krubert then got out of the squad with the vehicle's shotgun and was shot by three deputies when he refused commands to drop the weapon, the press release said." Think about it he beats a man's head and face in with a pipe and he now has a shot gun in hand. Not much time to psycho analysis this man don't you think. He had the capability to break in a man's home beat in his skull, try to leave in the man's truck when that fails he has the capability to steal a police car. Then pull a shotgun on the officers. For someone with mental problems it seems he had his faculties to do what he did. You know I haven't read one comment from anyone about the man who's head was bashed in by this guy. Yet everyone is concerned and disgusted about why this guy had to be shot and killed. I would like to know what the man in the hospitals condition is and will he recover.

When are we going to get some REAL answers about the killing of Jeremiah B. Krubert?
My name is Jeramie Kositzke I live very close to the location where Mr Krubert was shot and Killed by Walworth County Sheriff Deputies. I came home at 8:30am to my driveway blocked off and a coroners truck outside my home in very rural Sugar Creek. It was a very scary moment for me. Once I learned my family was ok I started asking question and got no answers from authorities and with all due respect this article isn't exactly an investigative piece.
Although I do not in any way fault the officers for what happened, and the blame fully falls on the deceased, this article and every other one I've seen on this story has huge holes in it and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. For example, how the hell do you discharge your weapon several times but not hit the suspect at all? Were they warning shots? Did the gun jam? And how in the hell do you allow the suspect to steal you squad car? Aren't you taught not to get your squad car stolen in training? And from the looks of my road you may have tried to use the PIT maneuver. Was that how he crashed? And finally the article makes no effort to explain the final moments of this story. It just says he had the shotgun and refused to follow the deputies orders. So did he fire the shotgun at the officers? Did he even point it at them? I don't blame the deputies for what happened like I said. I just have a few more questions is all.

Becoming a Resident June 17, 2013 | 11:49 AM
Weekender, You are now going to change your place of residence in order to become a voter in the State of Wisconsin? One would think you would have done that already in order to avoid the monsoon of taxes you face in the State of Illinois. Some of the kids in Illinois are still in class because of the teachers strike. Are you complaining about what that is costing? Here our kids are out playing baseball and swimming at the beach. If you have a problem with the proportionality of taxation in the Bay why don't you take a real good look at how much of the lake front is taxed and how much is tax exempt. I think a little trip from your sun porch to do some research would help. You complain that you are not represented. When you bought your property you knew that you would not be able to vote. But that does not mean you are not represented. Every meeting I have ever had the pleasure of attending in this community you get to say what is on your mind and people listen. That is what true representative democracy is all about. Just because your views are not accepted by the majority does not mean you are not represented.

What is it with you people here in Walworth County? Whenever something like this happens it is always the counties fault for it happening. To S.P just read and listen to your own comment. "What the county does not tell anyone is that the person that was shot had mental issues. This should have been handled differently. I'm not saying what happened should not have happened, but maybe handled with the thought in mind that he was unstable." You say he had mental health issues. Did you know him? If so why didn't you help him? So when this person with mental health issues jumps out of the car with a SHOTGUN in hand and refuses to drop it when told to do so the officers should of done what? Were any of you there at the time? If so maybe you could have stepped up and reasoned with this person who had a SHOTGUN in hand and had MENTAL ISSUES to. Its easy to back seat drive and not have to make life and death decisions in a split second especially when its your life and death you are talking about. As for getting him help. WHERE WAS HIS FAMILY? Why didn't they step up and find him help? They would have known if he had these issues. No its easier to sit back and let someone else deal with it and then gripe about it afterwards.

Mental Help June 16, 2013 | 12:43 PM
I also heard he had mental issues. why did Human Services provide him help. I heard the family was trying to get him help but Human Services would not help him. If that is true I think the Human Services should all be fired.
Sounds like when the Fontana Police Dept brought a guy in for trying to kill him self and Human Services refused to help him and sent him home. The next day the guy hung himself. Instead of Human Services it should be called Useless Servcies.

This is in response to Connie's comment "You city folks just can't stand to see anything dead". Connie the point is this country is filled with out of control people who feel it is no big deal to beat an animal or a person to death. The response is SO WHAT!!!. What would you do if this person or persons beat your dog or cat to death because maybe the dog barked at them or the cat hissed at them or heaven forbid they beat beat your child to death because the child laughed at them or made to much noise? What would you say "You city folks just can't stand to see anything dead". Stupid inconsiderate comments and attitudes like yours is what is wrong in this country. Sadistic Behavior June 14, 2013 | 02:51 PM
To "Seriously" & "Joe",
Your comments are just as bad as the fatal actions of the monster who did this!! I pray neither of you own any kind of pets since you apparently have no compassion or common sense. These turtles are docile towards humans unless provoked!! Since they can't hide in their shells, their natural defense mechanism is snapping. What is NOT natural is someone violently attacking ANY kind of animal with a golf club! The person responsible is seriously disturbed and most likely lacks a conscience! I wouldn't trust him/her near my loved ones, whether they're 2 or 4 legged! Animal abuse of this magnitude is never acceptable...most people who commit these barbaric acts usually have no problem turning on humans either so think about that! It's a serious crime and somebody knows who did this...I pray they do the right thing and report it. I'll feel a lot safer (and happier) once this jerk is caught & locked up!
