Walworth Township — Two Big Foot seniors and a Lake Geneva woman were seriously injured in a head on car crash April 13 at 5:41 p.m. on Highway B.

Rebecca N. Tanner, 18, of Walworth was flown Flight For Life to a Milwaukee-area hospital.

Dean E. Smith, 18, of Zenda, and Laura M. Sherin, 54, of Lake Geneva, were transported to Lakeland Medical Center with nonlife threatening injuries.

The initial investigation by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department indicates Smith was traveling west on Highway B in a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire when he crossed the center line entering the east lane of traffic.

When he entered the east lane of traffic his vehicle crashed into a 2004 Infiniti 635, which was being driven by Sherin. Tanner was a passenger in Smith’s vehicle.

The crash occurred in the town of Walworth on Highway B about one-third of a mile west of Indian Hills Road.

Smith is an offensive lineman with the Big Foot Chiefs and was named first-team all conference this fall.

Tanner is an honor student at the school.

Sherin works at Kikkoman Foods, Inc., as the Corporate Quality Programs Supervisor.

On Thursday afternoon, Walworth County Sheriff’s Capt. Scott McClory said neither alcohol or drugs are suspected to be a factor in the accident. He said speeding also wasn’t a factor.

According to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department, the case remains under investigation, and citations or charges may be forthcoming, if warranted.

McClory said Tanner’s current condition is unknown.
